Foot pain getting worse

I have had pain on the outside of my right foot for about 6 weeks,

Initially around 5th metatarsal, moved to little toe and the joint that joins the toe to the metatarsal - kind of the ball of my foot but little toe side.

Swells a little, not too bad when I get up, quite bad after an hour or so.

Today the pain has spread up to my ankle. It's across the front of my ankle and in front of my ankle bone. My foot and ankle are swollen, painful and feel odd. Kind of tingly and cold. Maybe pins and needles feeling in my sole. In fact my whole leg below my knee feels odd.

Seen the gp twice. First said muscular and to rest it, second sent me go an X-ray. X-ray clear.

Any idea at all what this could be or what I can do?

I'd go back to the gp today and ask for a referral. Doesn't sound right.

Had a telephone consultation with a Gp who said again, X-ray normal, tingling due to swelling and has booked me in to be checked out tomorrow.

I'm just stumped as to what the cause could be
