Infected surgical wound

Morning all

I had my gallbladder removed 7th August. What should have been a simple surgery for various reasons wasn't, although the surgeon managed to keep it key hole still.

Saturday following the surgery the top wound clearly showed signs on infection and anti bs were perscribed at local hospital. Wednesday the top wound starts leaking pus, blood etc and I end up being readmitted to hospital. Initially they reopened the wound and cleaned what they could with the plan to operate and deep clean and restitch. All ready for theatre on Saturday morning and a new surgeon decides against the surgery and instead wants to pack the two inch deep wound and keep it packed till it starts to heal from below.

Although I'm relieved to not go under the knife again I'm feeling a bit in the dark in terms of potential recovery time with the packing.

Has anybody had similar experience and willing to share? My slightly toxic mother is angry with me because I'm not better yet Confused

The lower wounds are very tender still and requiring pain relief, the top wound is a different kind of pain. But I'm just getting on with it.

Thank you for reading, and apologies for long post and typos

Obvious caveat here as different type of surgery (to remove lump on thigh) so can't say identical. I had drain in for about 5 days after clean and about 2 weeks of anti bio. Took about 2 weeks to heal properly.
So I would say it could take a few weeks.

I've been taken off my anti bs now, surgeons choice, although my gp put me on them for uti as well so will see what they say when I see them tomorrow.

I've got to have my packing removed this afternoon and fresh packing put in, the receptionist this afternoon is booking up the next 3weeks worth, so that's the only time scale I've got at the mo
