Has anyone had recurrent stomach bugs?

I've got to go to the doctor but I just wondered if anyone had anything similar? I've had v & d (at the same time Confused) at night about five or six times in the last 3 months or so. Hardly ever had stomach bugs prior to this point although did have occasional nausea/acid reflux. It always starts with feeling of bloating/gas in stomach in early afternoon/evening and then leads to full blown d&v at night. Just wondering if it is viral, something mechanical or an allergy? In between have been feeling very tired too and hot/sweaty but don't actually have temp. Anyone else?

Interestingly enough, not quite like you, but experience d without the v currently. Has been going on quite a few days now, but no other symptoms. I am putting it down to stress and anxiety, which I have never suffered from before, but just a couple of stressful things going on at the moment. Might be a bug though (hoping, obviously, that there is nothing too sinister going on)

If it goes on much longer, I will reluctantly have to see the GP.

Yes. Currently waiting for results from tests for giardia.
The whole family has had this on and off for several months now.

WestmorlandSausage · 17/08/2013 11:40

yes I do. My mum said she was the same when she was my age. I I have EXACTLY the same symptoms as you. I now live in dresses as wearing jeans seems to make it worse.

Steamedcabbage · 17/08/2013 11:41

Thanks for replying Bowlersarm - was beginning to think I was a medical anomaly!! Smile

Sorry you have been suffering - hope the doc can shed some light. Stress can certainly have a wierd effect on your body.

I (reluctantly too) will be going to GP next week and I know she is going to suggest endoscopy/colonoscopy. Terried out of my wits!

thefunstopshere my mum was diagnosed as having giardia but years later we/ GP doesn't think it was that after all. Its different if it is affecting you whole family though I suppose.

Steamedcabbage · 17/08/2013 11:46

Oh - x posts - thank you for yet more replies!

That's really interesting TheFunstopshere Have goodled giardia and symptoms look spot on. It's only me in the family that has d & v though. I look after rabbits - I wonder if this could be a cause? Am pretty good about hygiene but will mention to doc - thanks again and hope you feel better soon and test results provide some clues.

How odd Westmorelandsausage! Sorry for tmi but mine always starts with bloating/gassy feeling (I live in trousers) but very uncomfortable. Sometimes it settles down, and sometimes it develops in to d & v. Are you going to get it investigated? Or did your mum's prob clear up over time? Hope you feel better soon anyway!

Keep a food diary for the next few weeks and try and vary your diet from day to day, so that any food trigger should get highlighted. I think your GP might want to run some bloods too.

Steamedcabbage · 17/08/2013 11:55

That's a good idea HellyMelly thank you - will do.

In fact, I was just this minute looking back over diary to see if I could remember the dates ....

Do you have toddlers by any chance? I found when I had two toddlers who were socialising at toddler groups, soft play etc. one or other of them would have a stomach bug every other week and I had an entire year of stomach bugs myself, Awful, but thankfully stopped once they got to school age.

2madboys · 17/08/2013 12:46

Do you eat bread for lunch? May be a gluten intolerance or possibly coeliac disease. Don't go gluten free but you should ask for a coeliac test.

Steamedcabbage · 17/08/2013 12:47

No, just one 10 yr old Devilinside, but thanks for suggestion. Did go through that toggler-bug stage but all stopped when dd was about 5.5yrs and have been pretty OK since then ... until now anyway!

Another good suggestion - thank you 2madboys - all good stuff that I can present to doc

OP posts:
hellymelly · 17/08/2013 13:35

I am probably coeliac, and used to have a lot of tummy upsets, but not the sickness. As it is a gut thing, it tends to give you diarrhoea rather than making you sick. But if your gut gets irritated then I suppose it is possible. I agree keep eating gluten, as I stopped and now can't be tested and can't face the effects of gluten for eight weeks to get a test done. Doesn't sound like coeliac to me though.

Steamedcabbage · 17/08/2013 17:26

Thanks Hellymelly - have Googled symptoms. As usual with this sort of thing, can tick some symptoms and not others. But good to have on my list of possibles ...

The bloating then d&v sounds just like ibs, though if it wakes you up its unusual. If you have it late at night while awake I think it's classic ibs.

classifiedinformation · 17/08/2013 18:54

My friend gets this frequently and has been diagnosed with diverticulitis, definitely go to the gp and ask for tests.

Steamedcabbage · 17/08/2013 21:09

Thanks for more suggestions.

No it doesn't wake me up LongGoneBeforeDaylight it usually starts about an hour or so after eating - have never considered IBS - thanks will ask the doc

Ditto diverticulitis - thanks ClassifiedInfo - will get it checked out and report back!

Hello. I just found this post and I’m suffering from the exact same condition. I was wondering if you were able to uncover and more information as to why your condition keeps returning? I’m just going through this for fourth or fifth time in six months. I’ve had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy but it showed no abnormalities. I’ve had bloodwork of my liver, pancreas and gallbladder, all normal. I keep getting sick once every few months and i do t know what to do. Looking for answers everywhere. Would appreciate knowing if you found out anything. Thank you!
