smear results

Hi my doctor just rang me there now and has told me that my smear results have come back as abnormal and the hospital that rang them has put it through as urgent to be referred and have my appointment within the next 2 weeks to get all the abnormal cells removed.is this normal procedure? TIA

Yes, they act quickly because they have a real chance of fixing you completely. It happens to lots of people and normally its fine afterwards. So go for the appointment and try not to worry too much in the meantime :)

Yes as niggle has said they act fairly quickly. The number 1 thing to do is not to panic.

This is a screening test result for pre cancerous cells, they are looking for abnormal cells that may or may not develop into cancer in years to come. The safest thing to do in some cases is to remove them.

Thank you niggle and xBenefit i just had a mild case of panic earlier as my granny died of cervical cancer at the age of 56 so didn't know what to think.
