Thyroid??

I've just been to doctors as I've been really low at the moment over something really stupid (I can see that now) but I can't seem to get over it, doctor is checking me for menapause and thyroid problem to rule it out,

Can thyroid trouble cause jealousy, anxiousness, low self esteem, guilt and awful thoughts I can't seem to push out my head??

I've had other symptoms to
Hot flushes
Wakening during the night
Itchy skin
Peeing constantly

But the mental state is really getting me down as I'm normally care free nothing gets to me person!

TIA

My mental state changed to hyper anxiety, sweating, bursts of rage etc when I had an overactive Thyroid gland . First signs though were losing weight.

mercibucket · 13/08/2013 17:01

that could be thyroid related, certainly my moods and mental state were badly affected. get your actual results printed out and post them on here in case you are borderline normal for instance. do you have other symptoms like feeling cold? hair loss?

Weelady77 · 13/08/2013 17:29

I actually thought it was premenapause but doc mentioned thyroid, don't know if its hereditary but both my mum and nana had thyroids removed!

My symptoms were
The worst was jealousy anger hurt guilty thoughts
Not been able to concentrate on anything else (head full of whys how's even though its been answered)
Hot flushes
Wakening during the night
Peeing constantly
Change in periods

I have had itchy skin, vaginal dryness but that's subsided

I'm hoping it comes back something and I'm not just a loony! Hmm

With my overactive Thyroid - Hyperthyroidism- I became paranoid and just thought I was having a nervous breakdown .

susanalbumparty · 15/08/2013 21:22

My over active thyroid made me highly anxious, paranoid, angry, my periods nearly disappeared, I was extremely thirsty, kept peeing through the night, hot flashes, panic attacks, palpitations. I thought I was very ill and going mentally downhill. I didn't feel properly right until about 2 weeks after surgery. I felt like my old self again. I hope you get the result and treatment you need - whatever is causing you to feel this way.

Did your symptoms come and go I'm thinking its pmt as its worse 2 weeks before my period, I still feel anxious but no where near as bad as what I was!

Thyroid problems can be hereditary. However, I was overactive and my sis underactive, with no other family members known to have had either'.
Before the mental/emotional things happened, I lost a lot of weight. That was the first symptom

Weelady77 · 16/08/2013 14:00

I've not lost weight but probably gained it steadily over the last couple years from 9st to 11st

My mum and nana both had thyroid trouble and had to have operations to remove it (I think)!

i had horrendous pmt that eventually lasted 2 weeks out of 4. i was hypo. now my pmt has gone

when are the results due?

Weelady77 · 16/08/2013 16:06

I don't get the blood test till the 30th as there checking premenapause too!

I'm about the same 2-3 weeks out of 4 I honestly can't cope now with it all other symptoms I can but not this, I'm terrified for the next time it happens as its my DH that suffers then the kids feel it!
Although he's really pissed me off about 8 weeks ago and it's this that's bugging me!

The panic and anxiety and hot flashes symptoms were sometimes worse sometimes better. Thirst was pretty constant. Funnily enough I didn't lose a lot of weight at all.
