Have just got ds2 out of bed and he is absolutely covered in spots. On his face, his torso, his arms, his genitals, some on his legs but not many.
weird red blotchy spots some of which look remarkably like molluscum.
He has one under his eye and eye area looks a bit swollen. He has been scratching in the night and has knocked the top off one of two and they are a bit bloody.
he was pretty blotch free last night except for a bit of eczema on his tummy and he is otherwise right as rain. He's sitting tucking into breakfast as i type.
Any clues???? i've made an appointment with the doc but am really worried.
he's 2 by the way.

DD also has spots all over her, they have little heads on them, I thought it was a kind of heat rash as she has had chicken pox. When checking her this morning they seemed to be better and I think that almost confirms they were heat spots because it wasn't as warm last night.

it's chicken pox!!!!!!
when i got to the surgery i told them he had a rash and asked if there was anywhere else we could wait.they put us in an office and we only waited a few minutes.
The doctor said to keep a close eye on him because it can cause problems in kids with eczema, she said that ds1 will almost certainly catch it in the next 2 weeks(groan) and that's it really.
he's fine. Not ill at all really.a bit clingy maybe but eating and playing and no snotty nose or cough or anything.

It is good to know what it is though isn't it alexsmum? Hopefully your other son won't be ill when he gets it either and you will be able to tick CP off your list of concerns. (Unless, like me, you have another child after CP has been round the family - I am still waiting for ds3 to have it).

I'm fine at the moment thanks. New home is lovely (house and area) but the house takes up a lot of time, cleaning and planning extensions etc! I am thinking (when am I not?) of going back to work in a year or so when ds3 starts school.

alexsmum - my DS had bad excema as a baby and had chickenpox aged 1. Just to put your mind at rest at bit about the connection between the two, he had no adverse effects or problems with the CP and not a single scar. He had CP bad too, was covered from head to toe, every inch of him and all his bits etc etc! DD on the other hand had twenty or so BIG spots which scarred her quite badly (not her face though luckily).

alexsmum · 14/06/2006 16:36

sounds good.
ds2 is starting pre-school in september.my thoughts are turning to more babies.......?

Get some calamine - and if he suffers badly with itching, Piriton might help.
