Is this normal? 'Periods' question.

I'm turning 30 next month and for the past few months (haven't really been taking much notice of how long it's been going on and have a terrible memory) my periods have been different to how I think they used to be.

The past few ones have started off with quite a heavy flow on Day One, maybe lasting for two days before either turning to brownish discharge or completely stopping...once it has completely stopped for a few days then started again before finally finishing, but more often than not once it's stopped after 2-3 days, it's gone until next month.
Usually start around the end of the month so quite regular.

My last period...I'm sure I was just on the very last day of things on the 5th August (I know this as my partner was round at the time, and I'd just had clear discharge during the day so thought I was done for this month, then we had sex later that evening (he's had the snip) and there was a slight bit of a red tint to the - oh, you get the idea).
That period started off heavy for the first day as usual, with a few clots (5p sized) during the day, and the blood itself was quite 'mucousy' - sorry for tmi but it looked like red snot in consistency, before turning to the lighter discharge but I think it lasted a couple more days than usual.. My previous two periods have been the same sort of consistency; on that first 'heavy' day or two, it's snot like blood and sometimes strings of it hang from me when I go to the loo and wipe (again, sorry!).

Anyway as I said it ended on the 5th August and then on Friday my ex came round to see the kids, long story short but I ended up falling asleep while he was still here and woke up to him having sex with me.
It took a while to register what was going on and also to work out what to do (I know, sounds strange to say that, but the kids were asleep upstairs, he's been violent in the past and didn't want a screaming match). I just kind of pretended to wake up naturally so I shifted slightly, he quickly got up and I could hear him pulling his jeans back up, and then he told me I had got myself undressed in my sleep (!) and I asked him to leave, which he did.

Yesterday morning, I woke up to some blood in my underwear - it looked like the start of a period; about a teaspoonful of blood. I never know what counts as 'bright' red blood, but it looked about the right colour for me, for a period. Just the wrong time.
It carried on all day and I'm still bleeding; I did have a bit of a tummy ache all day and then towards the end of the day (after some vigorous hovering!) I had a strong, dull cramp type feeling very low down in my abdomen, this morning it seems heavier than yesterday and I did have a slight bit of 'mucousy' blood yesterday, but just the once and today and the rest of yesterday it's more like 'normal' period blood in consistency, not mucousy or stringy at all.

Sorry for all the tmi but felt I needed to go into this much detail to get some relevant answers - does anyone know if this is another period or maybe a continuation of the one I had that ended on the 5th, if so then what might cause that - or could it be something to do with what my ex did?

I do know people will suggest police; I'm not going to do that for various reasons, so please don't jump on me for that, I'd appreciate answers to this point as it's worrying me slightly.

I'm basically just checking that there aren't any causes of vaginal bleeding that can cause death of serious harm...if not, then I'll just let this run it's course and see what next month brings.

Thanks.

PS - I'm not on any birth control, nothing has changed with my lifestyle, diet, health or anything like that.

Sweetheart, you've been raped by a violent man. I am so sorry. I can only suggest going to your local sexual health clinic and get checked over.

Only you know why this can't be reported to the police so I will respect that but do get checked just in case he has injured you internally. Also for STIs since I imagine he wasn't using a condom.

Go today. At least the rape will be officially logged. Or contact Rape Crisis for more support.

Take care of yourself, but please do something.

I hope something really horrible happens to this man very soon.

When did the last period start? You might want to consider taking MAP or having a coil fitted.

The bleeding is unlikely to be related to sexual activity as it started some 36 hours later. But I agree you need an STI check.

And do think about reporting this. Or if you really do not want to, make sure you find effective ways of not being alone with him. If he is there for child access, there is not need for him to stay beyond DC bedtime; or indeed have doorstep handovers instead of him coming in at all.

Hi, yes I know it's rape but I won't be reporting it. He won't do it to anyone else (as naive as that makes me sound) - he has a partner and it's just that he feels he has an 'entitlement' when it comes to me...I've made it clear he won't be coming here to see the children anymore.

Meditrina - can't remember exactly, but I do think the 'brownish discharge' went on for a bit longer than usual with my last period, so maybe 5 days altogether (1-2 days of heavy flow and then just brownish discharge for the rest).

I'n still bleeding by the way, I have started using tampons now and I think I soaked through one (well, the string was bloody and I'd leaked onto my underwear slightly, anyway) after 2 hours at one point, but maybe I just hadn't inserted it properly as it was a bit sore to do it (but I'm squeamish anyway when it comes to blood) as the next one seemed to be ok for about 4-5 hours.

Still normal blood, not the manky, stringy, mucousy stuff I've been experiencing with my last few periods, anyway.

Sorry for all the tmi in this post :/
