Anyone been Sterlised recently

I am thinking seriously about getting sterilised. I am 38 with two DS's and know that another child would do me in, definitely do not want to go back there. Have had a coil for three years, but my periods are a bit too long and too frequent and have left with low iron levels. I dont really want to try the Mirena cause I'm worried about spotting and weight gain (especially round my tummy) and don't want to go on the pill again for the same reason. I have heard recently that the operation is a lot less invasive than it used to be. Am a bit concerned about recovery, self-employed with two young kids so not a lot of opportunity for reast. Was just wondering what other people's experiences have been?

It was 13 years since I got sterilised (and actually recently had it reversed!) but even then it was performed by keyhole surgery and clips attached to my tubes. It was under a general anaesthetic but was actually an incredibly fast recovery time, I was able to drive the following day and was back at work after a week.

Not recently, 8 years ago but like Feelslike, it was keyhole and clips.
Didn't need any painkillers and was back to normal after about 24 hours.
It really wasn't an issue tbh.

2 years. Recovery a week tops. Been fine, although my periods have changed.

Decades ago. Keyhole and clips. Back at work next day.

It's still an operation, even if minor. All surgery carries risks of bleeding, infection etc. Why don't you try the mirena for a while, it will almost definitely help control your periods and improve anaemia.

I know it doesn't suit everyone but I have had one ( well several!) for nearly 20 years. I am pretty slim and never, ever bleed. Bliss. Tbh putting too much food in your mouth causes weight gain...of course hormones can affect your appetite but honestly I never noticed it. On the pill I think I was a bit more sweet toothed.

If you don't get on with it you can always have the sterilisation but your periods will still be heavy.

Hope that helps.

I was sterilised three years ago when I was 42. It was keyhole surgery and was combined with an endometrial ablation as I had heavy periods that went on for too long. The recovery time for the combined op was two weeks.
