Torn contact lens in eye!

Will it work its way out? I am guessing its still in there as only removed half a lens after getting accidentally smacked in the eye (lens was whole immediately after as I put it back in). Eye feels slightly sore but that may be due to rummaging about.
What do I do?!

I don't suppose your optician is open tomorrow? I would have my eyes checked ASAP anyway.

Lots of eye drops and then gently try to find the contact lens? Eye wash?

Good luck Smile

Eye wash soothed but still not sure if its there or not. No opticians open tomorrow anyway

Go to A&E tomorrow if it still feels sore - they usually have an eye dr on call who can look for it.

I used to panic about this, I would be too scared to sleep, even once went to a & e.

I'm a bit more relaxed now. Fiddling round cab make it sore and get you more wound up. I find if I sleep, overnight it dries out due to lack of moisture, and works its way to the inner corner and is easy to remove. (I'm assuming its a daily that went in this morning)

its even possible if you leave it till about 11 pm tonight you'll suddenly have a burst of luck and catch it. But don't worry and keep seeking it for ages.

amigababy · 10/08/2013 21:26

I meant don't keep seeking it. Its best to ignore, and then hope for sudden success.

babysaurus · 10/08/2013 21:27

Thanks. Am hoping it will work its way out, if its there (fairly sure it is though.) It was quite thin as its a daily disposable so tricky to find and rummaging wont do me any good!
Thanks for your replies

i had this happen to me. Didn't get smacked in the eye but for whatever reason the contact practically disintegrated whilst i was wearing it and only got half of it out when i took it out. My eye kept watering as the other half was obviously annoying it and i could barely get my eye open. I just stood in front of a mirror and rummaged round till i got it out.

JustLikeBritishRail · 10/08/2013 22:22

Can you put another one in? They stick to each other so when you take the new one out, the old bit will come with it... Has worked for me on a couple of occasions...

hollyisalovelyname · 03/11/2013 09:41

This happened to me. Went to the Eye Hospital. Granted it was Saturday night emergency, but very quiet. Doctor looked at it with specialist equipment and said that he couldn't see anything in my eye - there was nothing there. The following Tuesday I was rubbing my eye and half a torn contact lens popped out. Ughhh!

WakeyCakey · 03/11/2013 19:23

Don't put any water into your eye if you have some contact lens in it. Go to a walk in centre/opticians/eye hospital and have it taken out.
They will most likely put dye in your eye to find out how much is there.
But please don't use any water in your eye whilst there is even a small piece of lens in there. It was cause a really Nasty infection

browneyesblue · 03/11/2013 19:25

Agree with JustLike - try putting a new lens in. It's worked for me too.

Quejica · 06/11/2013 20:25

I hope it's out by now - it has been nearly 3 monthsSmile
