Quick tips on how to relieve acute constipation?

DS1 is 17 and has been ill for a week with a nasty flu virus. Just starts to improve and now he is badly constipated. He is very uncomfortable.
This isn't something I've ever had and neither has he so I need some tips.

I don't mean the normal healthy diet / fruit / fibre things because it's never normally a problem.
He's drinking lots of water and had some laxatives last night.

I know you said no diet tips, but a big glass of orange juice, lots of green veg and give him a big helping of lentils as his carbs tonight (nice recipe) and I bet he is sorted. Dried figs or apricots will also help.
If the laxative was mild it may take a second dose before it starts to work (eg. Lactulose).

Montybojangles Thanks for replying. He hadn't eaten for 5 days due to being ill but had started to eat a little yesterday. I have dried figs and apricots in the house but he refuses to try them (faddy teenager). He has been eating apples and grapes all day and drinking mixed fruit juice.
It was senna. The pack says two tablets at night, he took some last night and I'll tell him to have some more tonight.

Glycerin suppositories (Boots do them..on the stomach meds shelf..green box!) He can insert one into his bum (buy disposable gloves in Boots at same time) and tell him to lie on his left side.. usually works in 15 mins or less especially if he has a hot drink at the same time.

it's by FAR the quickest way to unbung from the exit end!!!
