How to delay my period?

Realize it's going to arrive while I'm on hols!!! Have always worried about infection in pool water with a tampon in, plus the mess (heavy!) usual bloating cramping etc not ideal in a bikini and 40 degree heat! Would starting bcp now (mid cycle) delay it? Anyone know have experience? Read about Norethisterone but not sure if Gp would prescribe or I'd manage to get an appointment in time tbh! Thanks so much

I needed to delay mine once. Doc gave me some tablets to take a couple of days prior to hols and whilst away. It worked a treat, cant remember it having side effects. I would recommend it. I had gone to docs for something else, and just happened to mention period coming when on holiday and she was fine about offering me it. Not sure if they'd prescribe it without taking blood pressure etc though.

Yes your GP will prescribe norethisterone. I took it last week while I was on holiday and it worked great, although gave me a week of awful pmt!

I was recently given those for the same reason, worked perfectly Grin
Have a lovely holiday Grin

My GP prescribed norethisterone for this but I had horrible PMT & insomnia. I haven't taken it since. You can buy a different drug containing tranexamic acid (Boots has their own version) over the counter (if over 18 & under 45 with regular periods) which reduces bleeding, I don't know if that would help enough.

I was given for norethisterone after having a period for the best part of 3 months - I took it for a week and then had to stop as I was either screaming with rage or weeping, it was absolutely awful. Tranexamic acid worked for me as it's not hormone based at all.

I'm glad to see it wasn't just me who suffered with norethisterone, I had it as we were going on the most expensive holiday of my life & I felt miserable. I had problems caused by larium (anti-malarial) in the 90s another dodgy prescription drug.

I've been given norehisterone twice.
The first time I was told to start three days before my period was due, and I had raging pmt the whole time I took it.
The second time I was told to start taking it mid-cycle, around ovulation time. The Dr said that the norehisterone maintains you at the state where you start taking it. Took it for nearly a month, to delay period by two weeks, and was absolutely fine the whole time.
Going to ask for it again tomorrow. Hoping I get a doc who thinks the second way.

Ooo, I had awful PMT while I took it too, didn't think to blame the tablets, I thought I was just an evil nutter Confused

IF I ever have to take it again I will start them even earlier, or consider not taking them at all.

too late for the pill but try northeristone, however you spell it. Be aware of the side-effect others mention.

there is no risk of infection while swimming with a tampon in. If your periods are more than a minor inconvenience do see a doctor to discuss long-term treatment.
