Prednisone/corticosteroids for migraine/headache

Anyone been put on prednisone to try and break a chronic headache/migraine cycle?

Been started on 50mg today (tapering down over 3 weeks) by neuro and pretty worried about side effects and whether (if it works) it will all just come back after.

thanks

Hi, I was prescribed a short course last year for my skin. It made a difference but also made me very hyper and a bit too 'up'
I was told they were for short bursts rather than long term use and I think I read about weight gain as a side effect.
Not sure that helps you, hope your migraines go away though as they are awful and can knock you out for hours.

thanks insomniarules - hideaous headache and no improvement yet but i suppose that would be expecting too much? I have had a constant headache for 5 months which occasionally flares up into a migraine, so getting pretty desperate :-(

Noone been given steroids for pain? End of day 2 and no improvement at all, and I think out should have kicked in by now.

I've had both prednistone and cortisone steroids, but for arthritis. The cortisone injections that I have are instantaneous, reduces the pain and inflammation almost immediately when given to my larger joints (shoulder, knee, ankle). Not so good with small joints. The pred takes a few days to kick in and isn't so obviously working, it creeps up on you. You just suddenly realise that it's. not so bad as it was IYSWIM.

Really hope you start feeling better soon.
