Anyone had a breast reduction?

I'm a 34 HH and I've been vaguely considering a reduction for some time now. I have back problems because of the size of my breasts. They are just too damn big Smile I would love to be a DD or even an E. I invest in really good bras but they still hurt - I have dents in my shoulders from the straps. I would just love not to have such a heavy load to carry around all day long.

It would be great to hear from people who have had a reduction. How much did it cost? Would you recommend it? Did you lose sensation in your breasts after the op? What was the scarring like?

Not had the op Lotta but used to nurse those that did & I would say do it before your spine really suffers.

You could try asking your GP for a referrral as with your size breasts vs size of frame, there is a medical need, especially if your straps are scarring your shoulders.

I'm not sure with current funding cuts if its possible to get it on the NHS but worth an ask maybe?

Hi MissMarples, great to hear from someone who's coming from another perspective. I'm 5'8 and size 14 so I can carry it quite well but my back is definitely suffering and I have problems standing fully upright.

If I had it on NHS, how long would i be in hospital, all going well? How long before up and about? How long before back to normal?

Are you sure your bra is fitting you correctly? Just I'm pretty much the same size as you (well, I'm a 32J - so same cup size, I'm just a bit narrower in the back) and when I've been for a fitting my bras never dig in at the straps. Having strap marks is one of the classic signs of an ill fitting bra.

I find if I wear a bra that doesn't fit me properly, I ache at the end of the day and can't wait to get my bra off,
But when I've been fitted I have no aches, pains or problems at all. What's more, when I wear a bra that fits I get no strap marks.

If you haven't had a fitting for a while, it might be a good idea to get it done, or even a second opinion just to rule it out before you consider more drastic steps.

I had a breast reduction 5 years ago and I can honestly say its the best thing I ever did. I went to the Doctor and got it on the NHS as he said it would eventually give me back problems and I was beginning to suffer from depression, I felt like a cartoon character with huge boobs and a tiny frame. I just wanted to be able to wear a t shirt in the summer like everyone else without feeling like everyone was commenting on them. It gave me the confidence to go for another job which I love and just wear the clothes, nothing revealing, that other people take for granted. I used to wear big jumpers and fleeces even when it was hot.

Forgot to say I was in hospital for 2 nights. The scarring initially was very red but now are barely visible fine white lines. The only problem I had was that straight after the op is fairly painful and you cannot lift anything at all. I had small children so I did need help for a while afterwards. I also find the feeling around the nipple of one breast is a bit numb but I still feel in my case that it was definately worth it.

How long did you have to spend in bed/out of action when you got home? How long before you were fully back to normal?

I had a BR about 10 years ago and it was amazing, I had mine done privately as I didn't want to wait and I could afford it! I can now sleep on m back without feeling as if I am suffocating!
I would really recommend looking a www.breasthealthonline.com there is a uk section on there with loads of info on it.

I had 7 weeks off work bu was unluck enough to develop septacemia and was quite poorly at 4 weeks post op. without he infection I think I would have been back t work much sooner.

I would definitely recommend having it done. It has completely changed my life,...my only regret is that I didn't have it done i. My twenties and left it until I was 35!

If you have it on the NHS there is a minimum amount they have to remove so i doubt you will not end up an E cup. They would explain all that at a consultation though.

I was out of bed fairly swiftly but off work for 4 weeks and when I went back I couldn't do any lifting, I worked in a shop at the time. Everyone kept telling me how amazing I looked and how did I lose all that weight? Only my close friends knew the real reason as they were the ones who helped me out with kids etc. Unfortunately I have put on weight since then and now my stomach sticks out more than my boobs.

Had it 13 years ago, 7lb breast tissue removed. 34hh to 36D best thing I ever did. Was even able to breastfeed two kids. Just do it

So many positive stories! Thanks everyone. I'm going to have a good think about it. We're moving house in the next few months so that's the priority, will see how I feel about the op early next year. Thanks for the info Thanks
