Beta Blockers for migraine

I was prescribed beta blockers (Propranolol) about 13 years ago for my migraines. They worked and I was able to control migraines with only paracetamol which was amazing! However I found that even after a few of months of persevering the side effects (weight gain, lethargy and feeling cold) didn't subside. I'm now on migraine no.2 this week Hmm and although 100mg Imigran usually works I'm finding I'm often having to up the dose to get them to work. I'm wondering if anyone has had success with beta blockers as I was hoping in 13 years there might be new ones developed with less side effects. I can't remember the dose I was on but I think it wasn't ridiculously high. I'm going back teaching in September and I'm starting to panic about how I'll manage with the migraines. Can't imagine they'll get better when I'm faced with a class of 30 disinterested teenagers!!
