Help! I'm deaf!

I committed the sin this morning of washing my hair in the bath, not something I normally do. Bringing my head up from under the water my left ear didn't pop.

I left it a bit and then I was a bit naughty and poked about in it with a cotton bud. It still didn't pop. I tried massaging around it, blowing my nose, even blowing down it gently with a hair dryer but here I am 7 hours later completely and utterly deaf in my left ear.

I'm off balance and generally feel quite 'ugh' because of it. Any other suggestions? Have sat in silence all day because everything sounds so strange its unsettling!

Help!!

Have you tried laying down your side that has the blocked ear? I used to get this a lot when I swam regularly and laying down for about an hour usually worked!

NoWayNever · 31/07/2013 17:56

Sorry should say laying down on your side!

Try putting a bit of olive oil in.

GhostsInSnow · 31/07/2013 18:03

Ok, I'm going to put in some warm olive oil and lie down on it.
Fingers crossed! Thank you :)

Ok....lay down for 45 minutes, sat up, massaged a bit and it's 'half back'. You lot are wonderful! Wish I'd asked this morning instead of suffering it all day.
Thank you

Glad to be of assistance!

Possibly spoke to soon.....

Had gone again by midnight, woken up this morning and i'm once again completely deaf with a small whistle/whine in that ear.
I'm totally off balance as well, feel quite sick with it. Fortunately I'm booked in to see the GP tomorrow.

That sounds quite unpleasant. I'd still carry on with the olive oil, though, but try not to prod it too much. Goo luck.

GhostsInSnow · 02/08/2013 12:06

I have an ear infection :(

Was soundly told off for poking and prodding which has made my entire ear very inflamed inside apparently, but its 'quite nasty' in there he said.

Lessons learned:

  1. Do not be lazy and wash hair in bath
  2. Do not poke ears.
