Hmm, funny lump under the skin on my leg?

Have had it for years actually, don't know why I am posting now. [slightly bored perhaps emoticon]

It's a hard lump, totally painless, and looks dark (brown?) under the skin. About 5mm diameter.

It's not bloody/oozing or anything, and the coloration is not on the skin itself, like a mole, it's under it.

Any ideas what it is? I thought it might be a bit of fat tissue gone wrong?

(I can see I'm going to get NO replies to this!!)

erythema nodosum.

I have it on my shins, have done on and off since I had my ds in 2000. It is sometimes painful and sometimes ok.

Google it and you'll get pictures so might be able to see if it looks the same.

Could be a \link{http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/dermatology/a/sebaceouscyst.htm\sebaceous cyst}, perhaps? Dp just had one, and decided to have it removed, just so as to be sure that was all it was. It was a cinch and there was no reason for it to be removed unless it got infected or painful.

I am of the opinion that with lumps and bumps it is best to get them checked out.

[slightly bored too emoticon]

I have three strange lumps on my legs. They are like hard blind spots under the skin and red brown colour.
I saw a Dr a few years back and he said they were the result of an infected mosquito bite, or spot.
Not to worry about he said.

FrannyandZooey · 11/06/2006 08:02

Spagblog you also had sebaceous cysts, that's what the gp said to my partner.

Hey Pruni leg lumps are a Hot Topic at this time of day, you see! You could make the home page yet.

Blandmum · 11/06/2006 08:02

Check it out with the doctor but to me it sound like a lipoma...a bit of fatty grisle under the skin. Nothing sinister....you just get them as you get older Shock

have a goodle for a picture

Blandmum · 11/06/2006 08:03

OTOH, don't google them! I just have and the pictutes are totaly OTT!

see your doc, but I bet that is what he says

Spagblog · 11/06/2006 08:10

Really?

I have one on my leg that has been there for 7 years or so!
Doesn't bother me, but is unsightly!

I've got one of these too - had it for about 20 years iirc! it's just at the back of my knee and is annoying and unsightly but no-one has ever commented on it.

Blandmum · 11/06/2006 08:57

Horrid, aren't they. I have one, and have had it for over a decade, as you say it is a mild annoyance.

I imagined that I would see one like mine, and small darkish lump, but those thisngs are horrid!

suzi2 · 11/06/2006 10:16

Doesn't sound like erythema nodosum in my experience. I found the lumps to be quite large, very hard, painful and when they went down they left a bruise like mark. Mine also appeared elsewhere on my body and gave me a lot of joint imflammation. (they're a b*gger eh neena28? - thankfully I haven't had a reoccurence since DS)

But sorry, don't know what it could be! If you're worried at all get your GP to check it over. Or mention it next time your at the docs/nurse for something else.

Pruni · 11/06/2006 16:38

Definitely not erythema nodosum
None of the pictures of sebaceous cysts looked like it - they all seemed to be nodules under the skin with no discoloration, whereas mine is quite dark.
Lipoma - I foolishly did google and Shock - I don't think it's that, but again that is going by the colour.
Being the sort of minker who likes to squeeze other people's spots, I now want to lance it to see if there is any foul-smelling cheesy exudate, as promised Grin
But, I think I will refrain, and maybe see a dr.

Well if you do see the Drs, let me know what it was because it sounds identical to mine. Find out if they can be surgically removed! Grin

neena28 · 11/06/2006 17:16

suzi2 glad i'm not the only one!

Mine comes back every so often with no explanation. Got a large one on the right of my right knee at the mo...really sexy with a skirt on!

Hope you get it sussed Pruni...bet you wioshed you hadn't asked now!?

I've got a little Sebaceous Cyst on my leg. Gonna google now to compare

Spagblog · 25/06/2006 07:57

WELL!
I've found out what mine is!

I was at the drop in clinic and saw a poster on skin cancer, lo and behold there was my lump in the section marked "non cancerous lumps"

It is called a Dermatofibroma

Go on google it, see if it is like yours Pruni...!
