How long after smear results for colposcopy?

My latest smear test result came back this morning showing low grade dyskaryosis, and I now have to go for a colposcopy.

The letter doesn't mention anything about booking the appointment, so I'm assuming it gets sent automatically.

Thing is, I'm going on holiday next Friday for a fortnight. Does anyone know when I'm likely to receive the appointment letter, and when it's likely to be booked for? I don't really want to miss it, I'd rather get this sorted ASAP but I also don't want to go within the next 2 weeks (if it will come around that quickly), in-case I need treatment.

I'm in the West Midlands, BTW.

I found the colposcopy unit quite quick to get hold of me after 3 abnormal smears. From memory it was about 1 - 2 weeks after receiving results letter. They actually phoned me to book me in and then followed up with a letter. Often treatment is done right then and there and is a bit uncomfortable (bit like period cramps) but a couple of paracetamol and a quiet day if possible and its fine.

Thanks Craving, I'm not worried about the pain as such I just don't fancy having to wear a towel in my bikini if treatment leads to a spot of bleeding. Ah well, I'll just have to re-book if the appointment comes for while I'm away.

Depending on what, if any, treatment you have you may only have light spotting for a couple of days so could possibly get away with it before your holiday.

It shouldnt be a problem to rebook for after your holiday, i had to put off one appointment for over 6 months due to being pregnant.
