Sore throat/ swollen tonsils - worth bothering GP?

As the title says really!

I've had a sore throat for a few days, and my tonsils are now swollen and red and I have difficulty swallowing.

I can't stand the thought of feeling like this over the weekend, but don't know if the GP can do anything IYSWIM?

So anyone know if it's worth trying for an appointment?

It is probably a virus - there is a lot of it around here (I've had, so has DH and friend's daughter). GP won't give you anything (as virus - antibiotics only for tonsilitis caused by infection) so I wouldn't bother going. Antibiotics wouldn't work anyway.
Have you tried a throat spray....though drinking lots of hot drinks helps and avoid milk etc as it makes swallowing even more difficult.

Hope you feel better soon...

Been to the GP and it's bacterial tonsillitis and apparently quite bad. Sad. She's given me antibiotics to try to sort it.

Just as well you didn't take my advice! Hope you feel better!
