Anyone else out there with braces?

I got orthodontic braces today!

I figured that my cute Hmm snaggletoothed grin wasn't so cute on someone turning 40, so I did something about it.

I originally wanted invisaline but the ortho advised that my case was somewhat complex and recommended braces.

Top and bottom.

God they ache.

I'm scared to eat.

Glass of wine to dull the pain...

Only me then?

Day two and they ache like buggery and are tearing the inside of my cheeks.

Hi Slanty. It will get so much better. DS1 has had them for 12 months, another 12 to go til the film star teeth are revealed. Think of the end result. Smile

Do you have wax to put on the bits that rub?

Stick to soft foods, it doesn't matter if you eat badly for a few days.

Take ibuprofen or paracetamol to help with the pain.

And remember, it will all be worth it in the end!!!

I'm getting mine off soon Smile (second time I've had them)

Aw thanks guys.

I haven't found a chemist that sells wax yet but it's on my list for tomorrow.

I know it'll be worth it in the long run but right now I want to yank them off with pliers.

It's a great excuse to eat ice cream!

DS1's Orthodontist sold the wax. it comes in all different flavours.

MrsGeologist · 21/07/2013 09:52

I think I managed to get wax from a big supermarket.

The pain will fade in a few days, just eat what feels comfortable (I wouldn't recommend crisps)

I had them for eight years, so I'm quite experienced.

Next time you get them tightened, take painkillers beforehand.
Also, see if you can get some special floss, it has stiff ends, so you can feed it through the gaps in your teeth, below the braces, IYKWIM. Keeping your teeth clean with braces is quite difficult.

This is similar to what DS1 has.

I have invested in a waterpik which is a water based flosser.

Had a hoot using it for the first time this avo. Bathroom sprayed with water and saliva.

Ds thinks it's fantastic.

Little does he know it's his turn in 10 years :)

I love my Waterpik Slanty. I am amazed at what gets blasted out. Grin DS1 has the brace head. It's good for doing round the taps too.

Multiple use items. Now that I like Grin
