Veruccas - is it worth seeing GP?

I've got veruccas! They are not giving me any trouble but DH wants me to get rid of them.

Freezing kits haven't worked and I forget to use salycilic acid. DH has suggested seeing GP but I've heard that they no longer treat veruccas/warts and leave them to go away (which can take years)

Are they contagious?

I would make a proper effort with the salycilic (sp??) acid before going to the GP.

It might start hurting - I would try and get rid ASAP.
