Is 4 teeth at 14 months ok?

Hi I know I shouldn't really worry but dd doesnt seem to have any symptoms of teething. ( lucky me I hear you say)Her gums are hard but the lack of teeth means she is still having wet lumpy food instead of proper meals. How long should I wait before taking any action?

I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of teeth, the age they get them varies so much. I would say, though, that lack of teeth doesn't mean she can't have anything other than mush; because their gums are so hard, babies can chew with them, so you don't need to stick with the mushy food.

DD only had 2 teeth when she was about 14 months, she did look funny bless her but absolutely fine.

my dd was very slow too, she only got her first tooth at 11 1/2 months, got 6 in the space of 3 days Shock didn't get any more til last month when she was 15 months and still only has 4 on top at front, three on bottom at front and one coming and bizarrely enough 4 molars further back with nothing between them and the front ones.

i wouldn't worry, as long as she has some she's fine.

btw, you'd be surprised what they can manage to chew with their gums elliebean, don't be afraid to try her on more chewable food, within reason obviously!

ANother one with none at the age of ten months. Doesn't stop him eating anything though - I give him the same food as us (just chop it up a bit).

Mine didn't have any teeth at 14 months old and but has a perfect set now (5yrs). She had the hardest gums going which didn't stop her eating proper meals (even biting on apples). It never ceased to amaze me how she could demolish a french stick (crust and all) with no teeth.

DS has 4 teeth and is 16 months
DD was the same
He eats hard stuff quite happily, fishfingers, broccoli, cheese, crackers etc.

Thanks this is very reassuring. Dd does have hard things like breadsticks and toast I guess I should let her try more things just to see how she goes

Dd1 got her first teeth at 11 months and then nothing until 15 months when she got the top two.

At 20 months she has 4 molars coming through as well as a tooth next to her bottom teeth. She has always been fine gumming food.

I am dreading him getting more teeth for sentimental reasons
Pink gummy smiles are so sweet
Also their face shape changes when the teeth come in

DS turns 3 middle of next week and has cut his final tooth today - so it's taken 3 years for a full set - give it as long and he'll start loosing them again lol

Also they didn't come out in any particular order so ended up with weird gaps as well.

met a mum at toddler group a couple of years back whose two year old only had 4 teeth. Bless her. I honestly can't remember how many teeth my ds got and when, but I do remember that when he was about 9 months old, he started rejecting anything that was too mushy and much preferred lumps.

DS1 only had 4 by 14 months (in fact, holiday snaps show 3 and one coming through). DS2 on the other hand had 12!

DD didn't get first tooth till 13 months and then she slowly got the rest, all in a funny order. However, deapite being toothless for so long she did eat normal food, just chopped up small. She good manage anything with her gums. She was never really keen on "mush" type food, prefering finger food - so she just managed.

dd1 had 4 maybe 5 at 14 months

dd2 had 10 at 13 months

lack of teeth doesn't mean mushy food .. give her normal food she'll be fine

My friends's dd didn't have any teeth at 14 months, then about 10 came through in the space of a week!!!!!!

You chew with your molars and 'most' kids don't get them til well into their second year and they manage lumps.
Be interesting to see if your little ones baby teeth stay in longer as they are coming in later.
