Hello All/Dentist Mums/Dads
I saw the Dentist today and my DD requires her tooth removed due to abscess. The Dentist advised to start her on erithromycin today and wait for a hospital appt in 3 months time.
Firstly can she not get it filled - is it past this stage? Secondly can I not put a cap on it rather than lose it? Also can anybody recommend a good paediatric dentist who can do the extraction (if thats what it takes) earlier than 3 months (especially as 3 months means school time)?
Thanks in advance.....x

I'm not a dentist but I am assuming that as it's a baby tooth then putting a crown on it is a waste of time. Not to mention that impressions would need to be taken! Root canal is a long drawn out process too, your DD is only 4 and you don't want to make going to the dentist a horrible experience.

My DD has had a tooth out due to an abcess. It was ok. I'm not sure why you are having to wait three months though, although you do need to give the antibiotics time to work but usually that is only a week or two. If you think your DD might get upset over it, then speak to your dentist about sedation. Hope that helps.

3 months is standard wait time

I used a dental practice privately for DS's extractions

My surgery wasn't equipped to do sedation on such a young child and the NHS wait time was up to 6 months even though we were told it was urgent

Just to reassure you, DS was a trooper and had no after e effects except some soreness

Poor DD1 had 2-3 extracted at that age. She was fine. Her final teeth are coming through and they're beautiful and, so far, not crowded. I can't remember about any time off. It wasn't traumatic.
