Anyone had a total thyroidectomy or on thyroxine ?

I had a TT last year and have had my thyroxine increased a few weeks ago as I need to keep my TSH low.

My periods have gone from every 4/5 weeks to every 3 weeks so I feel like I am in a constant PMT / period state and I don't like it.

Any one else had this ? Will it be permanent if I stay on this dose ?
I also need less sleep and feel like I should be tired and want to rest but I just can't seem to. I am worried I am going to burn out or something.

Any experiences would be very welcome as I don't know anyone who has had the same thing and feel quite isolated.

Sorry to hear that. I had a sub total thyroidectomy more than 20 years ago. Have taken thyroxine ever since. I'm sure you will find a good balance soon. Insist on seeing an endocrinologist regularly.

I had a subtotal for an overactive Thyroid 40 years ago and was not put on Thyroxine as was told my Thyroid was now working normally.

22 years later my TSH was suddenly a little too high and have been on 50 mcgs since.

There are people on mumsnet who have had a total thyroidectomy and it takes a while to get your dosage right.

If you are on a too high dose you will experience some degree of being overactive - nervy, fast pulse, losing weight. But then again you may not get these symptoms as is different for everybody.

When I was producing much too much Thyroxine my periods stopped. When my sis was very underactive and producing too little, hers stopped too.

Is your GP treating you or an encocrine specialist?
