My dd has had a strange swelling rash on her hand for the past week. It is on the back of the hand between the forefinger and thumb.

It looks like a cluster of about 20 raised round bumps - intensely itchy (looks like stinging nettle rash). However, it is spreading. We went to gp an they gave us Trimethroprin to use twice a day.

This is day three and the bumps are getting bigger and angrier with smaller ones coming up around. It is circular in shape but far to bumpy to be ringworm (imo and that of the gp).

Does this still sound like an infection/ fungal/ bacterial?
All I can think is herpes Shock although there is no reason for her to have that !!

We are going to docs in the morning but really am very anxious about it. I have a bad time with my son's eczema and now this Sad

Oh no poor dd.
Are the bumps like little blisters under the skin? Are they painful or just very itchy?

Branleuse · 11/07/2013 20:36

scabies?

Youcanringmybell · 11/07/2013 21:46

So sorry - just got back home.

Yes they look like blisters under the skin I think. Some of the bumps have got bigger and merged with the nest bump to make a very swollen lump.
I am so confused.
I thought this cream tackled everything as it is anti bacterial/ antifungal and steroid.

I was wondering about the bumps as I have something similar that was diagnosed as a form of eczema. Only appears on my hand and feet and is extremely itchy, then skin drys and peels. However they don't tend to swell to form one lump so maybe not the same.
Hope you get it sorted x

Thank you Paddy - Hopefully the gp will have another plan tomorrow.

I have waited 3 months for a dermatology appointment for my sons eczema getting out of hand and cannot face another long wait for my daughter as she is finding it very uncomfortable and waking her at night etc

Hope your eczema improves - must be miserable for you Thanks

There seem to be a lot of bumpy rash threads recently! Google dyshydrotic eczema - see if it looks like that. Can be aggravated by hot weather.

holidayseeker · 11/07/2013 22:28

I have the same thing, started on my toes a few weeks ago where little bumps appeared then they went hard and dry and the skin peeled off. Then this week I had a few spots start on the side of my finger and then it spread across hand I went to doctors as was itchy and uncomfortable and he advised not fungal and some form of dermatitis and prescribed betonvate cream. Looking at dyshydrotic eczema from above post it does look like this but only a very mild form so hoping it will just go away now with cream as doctor also mentioned taking a skin sample but did not do this.

I also had this problem on my big toe a couple of years ago which when I went to doctor he advised fungal but it looks just the same as this so I am not sure if they were wrong.

As I am sat here now typing my hand is really itchy so I know how it feels Sad

Yes NeverBeenToMe. That's what I have. Currently driving me mad as the heat has increased but hydrocortisone helps the itching!
Looking at the pictures on google I have the mild form in that blisters do not form one big blister. Therefore currently feeling quite lucky!

Just googled - Thanks

I think it looks similar so is a possibility. My ds suffers with discoid eczema.

I will come and update once the doctors has taken another look at it...If it fungal perhaps she needs some oral anti biotics with the cream.

Just a quick update for those of you that were kind of enough to reply -
GP has prescribed a stronger clotrimazole cream as she is convinced it is fungal - I feel much calmer today about it all.
Thank you Thanks

Has this helped your daughter, I am off to doctors now as was given betnovate for something that sounds similar last week but the little bumps are spreading and really itchy when I am hot.

holidayseeker · 19/07/2013 08:20

Well I went to dr who said dermatitis but also look out in case rash chamges to scabies looking rash and he showede pic but mine looked nothing like that also I've had for about 8 weeks on toe so sure it would look definite by now but now itchy all over
