Vinegar - any kind!

PoppyWearer · 11/07/2013 06:38

Sympathy OP, I have some awful ones myself.

Off to find the vinegar...

When the shops open buy some anti-histamine cream and tablets.

DrSocks · 11/07/2013 06:47

Eurax Hydrocortisone from Boots pharmacy counter all the way. Disclaimer - I'm not a doctor but I am in SE Asia in the middle of the rainy season, nuclear Mosquitos here!

Tea tree oil?

Fragglewump · 11/07/2013 09:35

Aspivenin from boots is a sucky thing that gets out the poison - I react badly to mossie bites - one stung me last week- I used my sucky friend on it and it worked brilliantly no more itching or swelling!! Also does nettle stings, snakes, jellyfish, ants, bees wasps etc.

omri · 11/07/2013 09:43

Thanks everyone! Wrapped my feet in cold wet towels earlier to cool them down. Will pick up that sucky cream sounds like a good thing to keep in the house. Took an anti hyst in the meantime to relieve the intense itchiness. Hate those Mosquitos!!

Blast with a hair dryer until they are so hot you can't stand it. Repeat if the itching returns

fayeso · 13/07/2013 15:23

I also blast with a hairdryer until it gets too hot.....it really does work- in my case I suffer badly with bites etc etc - antihistamine tablets and creams don't do a thing other than cost me a fortune-hairdryer everytime for me!!!

longingforsomesleep · 15/07/2013 10:50

Fayeso - wow, that really does work! I've got three horrible bites on the knuckles of my left hand which kept waking me up on Saturday night. Normally bites seem to go through itchy spells and calm spells. These have been driving me round the bend - probably because they're on my hand so keep getting knocked and aggravated.

I scoffed at your hairdryer suggestion when I read it just before bed last night but as creams weren't working and I thought i was in for another sleeplessness night, I hopped out of bed and gave my hand a blast with a hot hairdryer - it really worked!

Just done the same this morning and they've calmed down again.

Amazing! Thank you!

fayeso · 18/07/2013 21:56

Glad it worked for you longingforsomesleep!!!
I too thought what a bizarre way to stop bites itching but it really does work. It is something to do with dispersing/ moving the histamine that has collected around the bite spot . You can google it to find out more.
But it works for me and considering I am living abroad I need constant relief fom bites!!

Yonihadtoask · 18/07/2013 22:23

Sounds awful
Antihstamine is good. I use Lavender oil on bites. It does seem to ease the itching for me.

Another vote for hydrocortisone cream.
