I've been on Premarin for about a year and a half following a total abdominal hysterectomy. I seem to have gained a bit of weight and despite dieting and exercise it won't shift. Did anyone else have this experience?

Hello Doing - I could have written your post, we must have just about been in hosp at the same time :) I feel like I have literally developed middle aged spread since the op - feel like I have a band of lard around my middle (always had one, but seems bigger now!). How long have you been told that you should be on Premarin for? I was 44 at the time of my op, and was told till about 50. Been meaning to make an appt with my Doc to discuss alternatives, as while the Premarin suits me fine, I am not happy about the ethics involved in its production. How many mg do you take I take 0.625 per day?

Hi Pannalash

I was told that 52 is normal menopause age so to stay on until then. I'm on .625. I'm also thinking about talking to my doc about coming off it. I didn't start taking it until about 4-5 weeks after op and didn't have any hot flushes so my consultant said I might be one of those people who won't get them.
I think I might try and see how I get on without it. Apparently you can go back on it if you don't like the symptoms when you stop taking it.
