Feeling really scared. Dodgy mole.

I think I've got a dodgy looking mole
It is on my leg and has felt a bit rough for the last week, maybe less, I can't remember . Kept meaning to book docs appointment but am always so busy. Tried to get one today and they only had emergency ones left so I said I'd call tomorrow. Anyway, this evening I have noticed that there is a blob of dried blood on the top. Now I am terrified. I've googled moles and they say if they bleed it is likely to be a melanoma. Also if you have more than 40 moles you are more likely to have trouble. I think I may have that many. Mostly teeny ones but also a few larger ones - that I am always very careful in the sun with. Tbh I am not always as careful with my legs . This is a small one , roughly the size of a pencil tip in width.
I am going to try and book an appointment tomorrow. I'm wondering if I caught it shaving my legs, and that's the reason for the blood. But it was rough anyway so needs seeing.
Do any of you have any experience with moles?

Don't panic. I have lots of moles and have had a few removed. So far nothing had been cancerous.
It's good that you are getting this checked out. Don't let the doctor fob you off. Some GP's in the UK don't know much about skin cancer. Make it clear that you have noticed that the mole has changed in appearance.
I am sure you will be fine. Even if the mole is a melanoma (unlikely) then fact you have spotted it early means it can be treated easily.

Yes a few of my friends have had moles removed too, can they just become dodgy but not cancerous dodgy?

Seriously, don't be worried.

I have had a big, itching, yucky crusting mole removed - it was tested and it wasn't cancerous at all. It was on my back and they said maybe being irritated by my bra or something - so it could well be fine.

A friend also had one on her neck that went horrible, bled, scabbed and bits fell off! It was also tested and nothing was found.

You are definitely right to have it checked but please don't have sleepless nights - it sounds small and it may be fine. And if they are concerned, they will get it out quickly IME.

I had one mole that developed a green (!) halo and one that had dark splodgy bits in it - both were tested and neither was cancerous. I was a state waiting for the results though.

Sometimes they can go 'abnormal' but not 'dangerous abnormal'. And you are most likely to have nicked it shaving.

Went to see practice nurse. She was not at all worried about it. Thinks it was nicked with razor. Told me to put some hydrocortisone cream on to see if it becomes less rough. And if not to come back to skin specialist who will do mole tests.

can I hijack your thread? I have two moles on my hand which I only noticed last month, one has jaggedy edges, both are slightly raised and fee like a scale. All my other moles look like freckles, so these are slightly concerning.

But, for the second time, I've got a big bruise on my hand just to the side of one mole but including it ifwsim. I have a GP appointment in a fortnight (with the skin specialist GP which is why it's so long away), but does anyone know if the bruising might be connected to the mole, or is it just coincidence? I definitely didn't bash my hand on anything this time, although I may have done last month without really noticing.

Should I be pushing for an earlier appointment with a different GP, or best to see the one who hopefully knows what they are talking about? Am trying very hard not to panic here, but my hand is really quite sore

I did have a melanoma on my arm, but thought it was just a big very black mole.
Mine did not bleed or itch.
It was raised , was big,hard, shiny and black.
It was the size of my little finger tip to nail bed.
It had a little pimple type thing on the top of it .
It had a red ring round it and the next day it had become darker and had another red ring round it - so was growing fast.
The skin specialist took one look at it and said that had to come out right now, had the local injection and 10 minutes later he took it out with a long white root attached.
That was 30 years ago, and still here as was caught just in time.

Midnight - I would get a general GP appt but keep your skin specialist one too. The general GP one might be able to move you along the queue if they are worried.

I had moved to Germany, and it was my Gyny who recognised it as something malignant immediately she saw my bare arm. You get yearly smears , breast testing and blood in stool tests there, plus they are trained in skin cancer detention and removal.

That's great to have so many regular tests. Very lucky she spotted it.

Digred, I noticed my adnormally shaped mole looks bigger, has grown a black shiny lump and has a red ring around it which I'm convinced wasn't there last week. Have an appointment tomorrow but I have a really bad feeling and feel sick. Worried if it needs to be cut out ill be waiting for a few weeks.

I have just had a mole removed and am awaiting results, but have been told it is unlikely to be cancerous. Your GP won't fob you off, it's not worth the lawsuit. DH had a scabby one on his lower back but it turned out to be a kind of wart, not a mole at all, and he had it burnt off there and then. They can often be fine but it is always best to get them checked.

When it comes to health issues, google is not always your friend.

When do you get your results?

Not for a month. They are very busy. But they do a lot more preventative stuff now, which can only be good.

Having it removed for analysis. Doctor thought it was inflammed. I took photos and the red ring around it has grown in 24 hours.

Holding your virtual hand. The removal appointment came through very quickly for me. x
