Can heat/sun stroke affect people in different ways ??

Ds1 (12 yrs) came home from school saying he did not feel "good"...

I did the usual of drink and snack thing...but he really struggled with his home work that normally he would fly through...

He could not pin point what was wrong ...just felt "funny" off sort of thing'

I told him to stop his H/W and he has been in bed asleep since 7.55 (!!)

He just seems wiped out ....any other dc's the same ?? (no other medical issues ...just heat )

My DD had a temperature of 106F when she was 6 and was admitted to the isolation ward in hospital with suspected meningitis as she had a terrible headache. She was just suffering from the heat.

My ds is a bit off his food just now and I believe it's the heat. He isn't unwell just a bit hangy, sweaty and grouchy. He is drinking loads though which is.why I'm not too worried.

I've not been feeling very hungry myself either so I can't blame him!

Thanks all ....He is off today as he has been descibing his headache and stuff...I think it sounds like dehydration "mini"migraine. He still has it.

Lots to drink today and calpol......and maybe an understanding of why I nag them about drinking enough

Actually ...I feel a bit mean now blaming him for not drinking enough.....

He still has not pick /perked up so I think he may be brewing a virus or something...Head hurts and his legs feel like cotton wool when he walks ...

He is just flopped in his bed dozing..

Sounds like the zombie cold. It's been doing the rounds. It seems to brew for a few days and then you have two terrible days and it starts to improve.

I hope he's better soon.

Thanks Caja....I have already decided to keep him off tomorrow as well as I do think now there is more to this than "just heat"

My daughter didn't actually look too good yesterday morning, but she said she was fine. However, when she came home last night she was saying she felt really tired (it's unusual for her to admit she's tired).

My daughter has had a couple of bad headaches in the past and I've put it down to dehydration as it's always been really hot at the time. When this happens I keep getting her to drink small amounts of liquid and get her dry things like breadsticks, rich tea biscuits and toast. Now he's 12, he can take tablets which may be more effective than Calpol, so it may be worth giving him some in the hope that helps more.
