Hi I badly sprained my ankle last night had to call paramedics as I fell down some steps at work and was alone and heard a nice crack. Had it X-rayed and its apparently not broken but dr gave me some crutches and strong painkillers and told me to see my gp in the morning for some physio and said my gp would decide if I needed a back slab to support it in the morning. What the dr didn't say was how long to stay off it weather I should elevate it, or just walk and bend it and he didn't give me an idea of how long it was going to take to heal or how long off work? I'm a health care support worker so I know about RICE so I've had it up over night, it's also the foot I've broken previously and got metal work in ( not sure if that's what's helped it not break) but just a bit confused as to why the dr has seeming passed it off to my gp, who I'm guessing has less knowledge of sprains ect and surely if he decided I need a back slab it would have been easier to sort out last night as I'm guessing ill have to be see back in a&e taking up more time
