mooncup users - does it smell?

How embarrassing :(

I'm new to the mooncup. I've noticed an unpleasant smell when I empty it. This period has been a little weird, and if I'm honest I think I niff a bit more down there since i had dc2, so maybe it's nothing. But it's really not very nice.

I know I ought to go to the GP. But it would be really great if anyone could tell me their period has a slight odour noticeable when emptying the cup. Please!

I think I do notice the smell of my blood a little more when using my cup, but only when emptying it. I feel like I smell more all the time without though, if that makes sense.

I've been here 6 years and am confused, what does UCM mean?

Yonihadtoask · 04/07/2013 20:20

I have never felt that I smell any different when using the mooncup.

Am converted though - no leaks - unlike tampons.

Blood does smell, but if you think something is out of the ordinary then maybe you have an infection also?

GobblersKnob · 04/07/2013 22:07

Sorry but Grin

poachedeggs is that you?

Erm, no smell here, there was a long thread t'other day about someone with a smelly cup, but then we learned that she was only emptying ever other day and the problem was solved.

How old is dc2? And what kind of 'niff'?

awaywego1 · 04/07/2013 22:20

Mines a bit whiffy- when I empty it-but I figure that's normal I hope

badguider · 04/07/2013 22:22

nope, i think it smells quite a bit less than soaked cotton (tampon or towel).

SanityClause · 04/07/2013 22:27

I suppose you can smell it more, because with a tampon, it just goes straight in the loo.

But it's not unpleasant, IMO. So, maybe there's an infection that's making it smell.

I'm assuming you are emptying frequently, unlike the recent poster who said it smelled like rotting dead bodies, and then it transpired she was leaving it in for days at a time.

FannyFifer · 04/07/2013 22:27

Someone on here had a smelly mooncup before and I think the problem was not emptying enough.

poachedeggs · 04/07/2013 23:03

Thank you all, even Gobbler you git Grin

Courgette, search for 'is that you, UCM?'. It's probably in classics.

Dc2 is nearly 3! Niff is just vague womanly niff, nothing dreadfully offensive. Had put it down to altered anatomy after VB and presumably minor wee leakage.

Definitely not leaving it in for days! Shock Don't think that's the problem, emptying it a few times a day. This period has been weird fits and starts though.

I'll see what the next one is like I think.

Deep apologies to the mner I was with earlier this evening if you happen upon this thread and the TMI within - I am even sorrier than you, I promise!

Ah yes I know what you mean now!

daysShock mine would have fallen out with the weight by then!

EMUZ · 05/07/2013 03:53

Could you have bacterial vaginosis? Mine smelt a bit odd and it was that. Used balance activ gel for a week and it was all fine

Onesleeptillwembley · 05/07/2013 06:24

I use tampons. I've noticed when I have a 'half hearted' start stop possibly browner coloured period the smell is different to normal. Probably because its not as fresh when it comes out.

SuperiorCat · 05/07/2013 07:09

Towards the end mine smells a bit, um, meaty I guess. I put it down to the fact that the blood is brown so not as fresh. And as the flow is lighter I leave it in longer
