Thyroid advice needed pls - DM has 3.8 result and many symptoms but within Docs normal range

Hi there,
as title suggests I'm wondering if any of you in the UK can advise me on behalf of my mum. She has many symptoms of hypothyroid (always cold, depression, dry skin, constipation, irritability etc) and has just had a test result back of 3.8. Her doc says you're normal if your result is between 0.5 and 4.5 (my docs range is 1-4). She's also coeliac, has struggled with depression for many years and is and a little anaemic (which she's now taking floradix for).

Has anyone managed to get prescribed with "normal" test results? If so, how did you go about it?

Thanks so much. I would really like for her to get treatment as she is really old before her time and I'm sure there is something that can be done to improve things for her - if only a little.

Drs seem to be more pro active and much quicker in prescribing medication

drug companies make billions and like to promote drug prescribing by keeping those doctors sweet. It is common place in the US to whip a thyroid out or have RAI straight away if hyper as then you can be on drugs for life when/if you go hypo - uk policy is try for remission first

This happened to me in 1970, 4 years before they did a sub-total Thyroidectomy. Months on < overdosed> Carbimazole when I blew up like a balloon, suffered agonising cramp and slurred my speech. And developed Scurvy. Then "remission", then it came back , and back to square one. The worst, I remember with the HYPER, was the raging PMT type of reaction and being paranoid and the shaky hands. I thought I was going mad. And pulse 160 just sitting still
I am slightly underactive now in my old age, but rather that than being overactive as it would probably kill me now I have a slight heart problem.

My thyroid went funny after having DD2, I was told it was PND and it took me months to figure out it was actually my thyroid. Then it suddenly changed from under to over active before I was given any medication and went back to normal before I was seen for it being over active .

I have so many symptons at the moment I'm going to be shocked if my results come back normal.

Really need advice on this but running out of house shortly.... Marking place for later.
