Vaginal bleeding for more than a month?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 01/07/2013 14:27

I have been bleeding pretty non stop since my last period, so slightly over a month. Sometimes it is a pink discharge and others like a full blown middle of period bleeding.

E.g. Last night I had very light pink discharge, this morning it was red and clearly blood.

To avoid drip feeding,

I have an IUD so don't take any hormone based med
Three DC youngest is 2
PCOS when younger but really quite mild and only real symptoms were 50 day intervals between periods
Only meds I take are beta blockers for migraine and ibuprofen as and when.

It just doesn't seem to be letting up and I am wondering if anyone has experienced similar.

Go to your GP and get them to have a look and if needs be a gynae investigation. Might be an infection or the IUD causing irritation for example but checking it out won't hurt.

Have thought about doing a pregnancy test?

Domething similar happened to me and it was an early miscarriage. I know you have a coil but it could happen.

(And I would go to gp asap)

I had this on and off for a year (blamed on perimenopause) until someone thought to scan and found my IUD was out of position. Removed, replaced, job done.

OP, sorry you're having this problem, I know how horrid it is. I will be following this thread with interest as I have had almost exactly the same problem. I too have a copper iud (no hormones), and a few months ago was bleeding constantly and unevenly for over a month, exactly as you describe. All HCPs I've spoken too have dismissed the coil as a cause for all this, but I am wondering.

I went to a gyno health clinic who said my coil looked okay, and nothing seemed obviously wrong from a quick check. I've been on the waiting list for a scan to check for fibroids since then (over three months).

What does seem to have settled things down is a course of acupuncture. I say this as a Ben-Goldacre-worshipping sceptic, but six sessions over the last three months have coincided with a return to normal cycle for me. To be honest, I also really found a practitioner who would sit down and talk though my symptoms and my feelings about it all for half an hour plus each session - not the rushed 3 minutes you get in the GP / clinic - made me feel a lot better in itself.
