Would a Urinary Tract Infection delay my period?

I am 7 days late which is most unlike me. Don't think I am pregnant.

About a week before I was due on I started weeing like a horse (so think lots of wee, every hour, rather than wanting to do a teaspoon every 20 mins)- no burning when on the loo and it looks a healthy enough colour- clear and very pale yellow. Then came familiar heaviness/mild pain in the general area where I guess my womb and bladder are situated and I thought either "here comes my period" or "ah, perhaps an unhappy bladder". Cue lots of cranberry juice.

But the heaviness is still there on and off, as are the horse wees.

So am about to go off to dr's tomorrow- but really, would a UTI delay my period?

Horse wees and heaviness were both early symptoms for me when I was pg. Given you are 7 days late...

No a UTI wouldn't delay period. The time between ovulation and menstruation (luteal phase) is a fixed length, the only bit of your cycle that can get longer or shorter is the first half before ovulation.

I had these exact symptoms and then got a BFP! POAS!

Hmmmm. Curiouser and curiouser! I have POAS about 10 times in the last week thinking that perhaps I am upduffed but all have been negative. I thought perhaps I'd got my dates muddled and i was testing too early but even DH recalls when my period was as we went away for a rare night without the dc and it somewhat pissed on the bonfire of lurve, as it were.

I have been trying to lose weight recently and have managed 1/2 stone in the last month but not via a drastic diet or stupid amounts of exercise- so I don't think it would be this, would it?

Just can't work out what would have delayed it otherwise- I am pretty sure I know when I ovulated, and have not had a stressful month (which for me is a guarantee of delayed ovulation)- and all the negative tests have rule out me being pregnant. I'm 37 so don't think it's menopause. Plus I had all the normal PMS symptoms at the right time, just my period has failed to materialise.

Very odd. Is this something I should POAS for another 10 times?

I thought I was pregnant because my period was a week late, and it turned out I'd had a severe UTI, seemingly for a good few weeks. Periods went back to normal after I'd had antibiotics.

What were your symptoms fuzzpig? My tum feels a bit crampy- like I'm just about to come on- but nothing painful. I can't remember when I last had cystitis or anything similar so can't remember the indicators!

It didn't really feel like a UTI, which was odd as I have had them in the past. I didn't have that telltale needing-a-wee-but-not-able-to-go feeling! Had tummy aches and headaches, was quite worn out, and I think I also had PMT at the right time etc.

POAS but was negative, so I went to the Dr to see WTF was going on, he tested wee and said I had a severe UTI. I said how on earth could that stop my periods?!? And he said actually it was quite possible for that to happen.

Well my period has arrived now so that's one thing cleared up- will wait and see whether horse wees and heaviness also disappear. Thanks for advice ladies.
