Tingling sensation in face

For the eight months I have been on a very low dose of citalopram. It's really helping me but I have started to have the odd pins and needles sensation in parts of my face. I have mentioned this to the Gp but she dismissed it. It never happened before so it may just be coincidence but any one have any clues what it could be?( Not some weird indicator of anything more alarming???)

If you are on citalopram your GP has diagnosed you with mild depression. Along with depression comes anxiety - they are like peas and carrots. Anxiety can cause all sorts of physical problems such as pins and needles which is caused by under breathing... also headaches, aches and pains, stomach upsets to name a few. Try some breathing exercises..... ......breathe in to the count of four and hold to the count of four, then exhale to the count of four and hold to the count of four. Also put your thumb in your mouth and blow your cheeks out for 5 seconds. It increases the circulation of red blood cells. Hope it gets sorted

I definitely had pins and needles when I was going through a very stressful time. I almost felt as if a mild local anaesthetic was wearing off in my chin area and cheekbones! Just totally weird. Also had it in my arms and lower legs. Would you say you are anxious at the moment 123rd? If you are, I can vouch for this being a symptom as cheeks points out. Hope it goes off soon.

You can get a type of migraine that does this. If it's a one of,f it could be shingles.

No I'm not feeling stressed at all at the mo. which what I meant when I said the meds are really helping. It is very random when and where I get it( on the face) and it can happen a couple if times in one day but then go weeks without doing it. I shall remember the breathing tho. Thanks for the advice.

I shall try that breathing exercise as I have been having panic attacks - over nothing major- during the last week. They are very scary < hope I don't get anymore, as not had any for over 10 years>.

DIGERD - panic attacks are scary, I feel for you. Another thing that works well is to sit down, wrap your arms around yourself or a blanket and say shhhh shhhh gently as if you were soothing a child. Rocking or swaying very gently helps too. Do it if you are alone as you will get some funny looks!

Thanks cheeks. I do live alone with only the little dog to notice which she doesn't . This time it accompanied with a mild sweating. And I do say out loud " Please don't do that to me or STOP IT!" I do try the deep breathing and float my arms sidewways , upwards and downwards and feel like a feather floating in the breeze. Not worked so far. But never held my breath for 4 seconds.

I did do your breathing exercises before going to bed as often have them during the night, and didn't have any last night.
