Hospital want me to take iron - ferrous fumerate -said to go and see GP to get it (have had it before)
Made appointment to see GP but appt has been cancelled gp gone off sick
Am about to re-arrange appt but realised you can get ferrous fumerate over the counter
so I don't need to see GP to get it do I?

and also hospital will check iron levels in three months so don't need to worry about getting it checked by gp etc.

Likely over the counter one is only very low dose.

Could you write a letter or book a telephone consultation with another GP. Or try speaking to the prescriptions clerk at the surgery. Usually the Gp waits for the letter from the clinic recommending it so if that has arrived then the prescriptions clerk may be able to sort out the script for you if you have had it before?

oh good thinking yes I'll do that.

OTC ferrous fumarate should be the same as that prescribed. Well it was in my case anyway. I declined to pay £7.00 plus for 28 tablets when I could get 100+ OTC for less than £3.00.

yes I've bought some to be going on with and its 210mg. That's what the hospital recommended I take. 210mg twice daily with ascorbic acid. However I do get my prescriptions free so in my case would be beneficial to get a script as it would avoid me forking out. I really don't think I need a GP appointment for this though. And to be honest paying for them isn't that big a deal - it was £5 for 84 tablets.
