Ovary size normal??

Hi I have always had problems with my periods. 2 weeks ago after a fighting with various GP's and fertility specialists I was FINALLY granted an ultrasound scan.
During the internal they got very excited about the size of my left ovary, its always hurt when ovulating from this side.
My right ovary was measured at 7mm.
My left ovary was measured at 14.5mm.
Does anyone know if this is normal?
When I ovulate from the left im doubled over in pain and when I actually "come on" I go through a pack of always a day.
Is this normal?

I'm not sure what the normal size is, but when not ovulating they are usually about the same size. As Specialists were very excited about the swollen one, if you are receiving fertility treatment, it could mean the larger one is full of ripening eggs?

Did you not ask them why they were excited? I would have done.

I asked what was up and they just said make an appointment with my gp to discuss the scan results. I'm not on fertility treatment only went to specialists due to pain during sex and really bad periods lol.

The lol at the end of your last sentence was I guess ironic (I have always had painful periods and in my case at least endometriosis was the cause).

All that you write in your initial post is not normal at all.
Pain during sex is highly indicative of endometriosis being present. Wonder if anyone's ever mentioned endometriosis to you?.

Ovulation from ovaries is a completely random process.
A "normal" size ovary is about the size of a walnut. The ultrasound scan may have shown something like a cyst on the left ovary.

GP is NOT the person you should be discussing these results with; this type of issue is well outside a GPs general remit. I would instead ask your GP to be referred to a gynae cons at a major NHS unit in your nearest city. At the very least you need to see a gynaecologist.

My DD had a scan and one ovary was smaller than the other. She also had a cyst on one of them. Her problems had been erratic periods - none for 4 months then one lasting 6 weeks. She was in the early stages of the perimenopause. But she did not have more pain than usual from her periods. She was referred to the gynea dept. who did the scan.

The scan did show the ovary and the cyst as separate entities.
Your GP should get a detailed letter of the results recommending further investigations or treatment. Usually a Hysteroscopy to look inside if further investigations are necessary.

Thanks for the info endometriosis was dismissed when I mentioned it same with pcos I've been fighting for 5 years now also have a tipped womb which they put down to the difficulty in conceiving ds. I'm seeing the gp this pm and was going to request gyne appointment we are in the process of moving from one side of the UK to the other so pretty stressful time as it is bloody army! Wish we had gone back to Germany everything gets sorted out medically out there straight away!

I suspect you don't have the right measurements there, an overt is usually about 2.5cm. An ovary of 7mm would just not be seen. Are you meaning follicles rather than ovaries? Pcos produces large ovaries with multiple tiny follicles

Yes, I know. The german NHS system is brilliant. 9 am-5pm specialists clinics, Mon-Fri, along all the high streets and rural market towns too.
48 hour emergency week-ends/bank holidays are covered too.

I do miss that in UK. No waiting lists for ops in hospitals. 3 bedded rooms ensuite as standard .

Or possibly the 7mm relates to your endometrial thickness (well within normal). Was it the Sonographer who told you these measurements? They could have been 'excited' as ovaries can be difficult to see and so sometimes when one finally appears after you have been looking for it for ages the Sonographer may seem a bit 'excited'? Hope the gp can shed some light on it for you? Will they have the report through by now?

The sonographer ran out and got the consultant and kept telling me not to worry I was in there in agony for over an hour not nice! They said they would send the results over as an urgent matter and to see the gp in a week. As usual it took 2 weeks for me to an appointment so more than enough time to send them over. They were very unclear about what they were measuring my lowers abs have always been swollen so now I'm starting to think it's all connected at gp at 3.30 so will let you know what she says x

That's terrible that they didn't let you know what they had seen. Although this doesn't always help as generally and understandably patients usually have lots of other questions which the Sonographer can't answer. I do hope you get some answers from the gp today and a referral to the right person. At least you have already had a second opinion on the ultrasound if they got a consultant in. Good luck, let us know how you get on. I would think if the results were really bad then the gp would have wanted to see you more quickly or a referral would already have been made, so try not to worry (I know there's not much point job me saying this).

Well gyne referral gone in to discuss surgery options now gp is saying endometriosis is most likely! Bloody 5 years of fighting to be told its what I thought it was to begin with bloody nhs!

Glad you got your referral. What did your ultrasound show?

Everything is normal tiny cyst but nothing major so endoscopy now
