Foot pain

Aaarrrggghhhh! My foot is killing me!

About 10am this morning I got a pain in my left foot, over the 5th metatarsal. It's a stingy, burney, achey pain.

It's there constantly in the background, but every so often throughout the day it's been kind of gripping, almost cramp like.

No falls, twists, bashes - what could it be? It's driving me mad!

Hi, I had something similar, started with metatarsal pain, then my foot swelled up too,and I also had a bit of pain develop along my lower shin. I couldn't think of anyway I could have injured it. When I went to my GP she said it was likely to be a ligament injury(bit non specific!) and recommended rest and anti inflammatories.
Two weeks later it had improved but was still sore and foot swollen . I was rushing, moved from a walk to a quicker action(not even a run) and felt a searing pain along the back of my calf on the same leg, which gave way under me. I ended up in A&E and was diagnosed with Achilles tendonitis. 5 days on I still can't weight bear on the leg so I'm back to hospital tomorrow!
It seems really silly because it's not as though I was playing sport or bashed it or anything dramatic!
I would go to the doctor if I was you , if they say rest,do( I didn't, just kept going!) and if it's not settling down, go back!
Having said that gout can cause pain in foot joints, any family history?

Hi Irishmammy Smile

Poor you! Good luck at the hospital - it's crazy that doing seemingly nothing can cause so many problems isn't it?

No gout in the family and just can't think of anything that might have caused the pain - it came from nowhere.

Hi LittleNoo !
How's your foot today,is the pain still there?
I had a long and frustrating day at hospital and even had a doppler scan on my foot to check the circulation, which was fine,so they've put it down to a soft tissue injury.
The conclusion was that tendons/ligaments could take 4-6 weeks to get better,in the meantime rest, ibuprofen and elevate the foot.
Ah well, it's a good excuse to lounge on the sofa with a cup of tea (made by DS) and play on Mumsnet !

Hi IrishMammy!

Sorry you had an unproductive trip to the hospital. It's always frustrating when something isn't right but no cause can be found.
Make the most of it and put DH and the kids to work this weekend!

Still sore today but no worse and no swelling which is good I guess. Will take it a bit easy over the weekend and see how it is on Monday. I don't want to not do anything and leave it to seize up, but don't want to overdo it either iykwim?

Ah well!
