Anyone had an Iron Infusion?

I am anaemic and have not been able to stomach iron tablets or liquid so have been advised to have an iron infusion.

Dr GoogleBlush seems to suggest there can be serious side effects but presuming that it goes ok , how did you feel immediately afterwards? I know it will take weeks for it to have an effect on my iron levels/anaemia.

Hehe honestly- best care I've ever had was whilst pregnant. Apparently as an individual I wasn't important enough to be treated- as a mother, my appts appeared the next day (for IV it took less than 24 hrs).

I've had an iron infusion and I was at the hospital for 8 hours. They do a test first then gradually increase the speed of it.
During it I felt a little sick and very hot.
After it, the next morning I felt much more achey than usual.

I am a GP, our current guidance is that if we diagnose iron deficiency anaemia and there is no obvious cause (such as heavy periods for example), then the first line investigations are upper and lower GI cameras. This is not an individual’s decision it is the consensus of all medics and specialities. On our referral forms for unexplained iron deficiency anaemia we specifically have to tick to say that we have explained to the patient that we are investigating the possibility of cancer. Yes of course there are alternative explanations but the GP was not being alarmist, they were following agreed protocols to catch those rare instances of cancer quickly and communicating to the patient they are being sent to a fast track cancer screening clinic.
