Mosquito bites

Hey, thanks for reading firstly

I'm in Spain on hols and have been bitten by Mosquitos twice. Both bites I scratched before realising they were bites. This was on Monday. Since yesterday evening they have blistered, burst and are now weeping clear fluid. The area surrounding one of the bites has swollen and is hot red (about 15cm long on my calf). I've been to the pharmacy and been given an antibiotic cream. Will this be enough to prevent impetigo?

I've never had it but know scratched bites can go that way Hmm

I would get a medical doctor to look at your leg asap as this hot red area may be cellulitis. Antibiotics may be necessary.

I always react to bites like that- big blisters surrounded by up to tennis ball sized areas of swelling. Antihistamine tablets will help the swelling (not cream as it needs to work from the inside out not outside in IFSWIM otherwise it can last longer) and regular dips in the sea if possible will help any fluid to drain from the blisters. Gross but it does relieve the itching. Hope it improves soon.

OH always reacts to bites like that as well. Last year in Italy his elbow swelled up but the antibiotic antihistamine cream worked, along with some oral antihistamines.

Keep an eye on the swelling and if it gets any worse then you should really see a doctor.

I have never heard of anyone getting impetigo from a mosquito bite before BTW.

I have never heard of getting impetigo from a mosquito bite either.

I agree with taking oral antihistamines - you should start to see an improvement the next day with these. If not then I think you ought to get it looked at by a doctor.

Thank you all for replying to me.

I've been and got some antihistamine and will crack on with them in the morning and continue with the cream.

Apologies for the incorrect impertigo comment, I stupidly dr googled mosquito bites
