Uti?

EMUZ · 13/06/2013 19:21

I know, I'm a bad patient and I should go to the doctor. But having been in and out the surgery for weeks I've had enough of the place Smile
Constant feeling of pressure like I'm bursting for the loo (in lower stomach) and I seem to be going a lot more. No pain just stomach discomfort
I've concluded it's probably a uti and I'be started taking a weeks worth of penicillin
Anything else I can do?

You need to drink loads of water to flush it out of your system. Cranberry juice is supposed to be good as it neutralises the acid in your urine, but if you can't get any until tomorrow, then drink water until then. Stay away from tea and coffee as they can irritate the bladder.

EMUZ · 13/06/2013 21:14

I will drink more water. Taking a high strength pre and probiotic too on the vague idea it will do no harm
If it doesn't shift I will go to doctor, like I said above I'm kind of presuming uti but no stinging or pain at all

Penicillin isn't really the best antibiotic for a urine infection and if you haven't had a UTI confirmed then I wouldn't be taking the antibiotics.

I would drop an early morning sample in to your surgery for testing and if it's positive for a UTI then they will prescribe accordingly.

LEMisdisappointed · 13/06/2013 21:41

Where are you getting the anti-biotics from? penicillin wont touch a UTI. A UTI can track back to the kidneys and cause permanent damage, please go to your GP. You don't know that its a UTI

EMUZ · 13/06/2013 21:45

I will go to gp on Monday if no better. Long story short I've recently (4 weeks ago) had a medical termination, so all the appointments that go with that. The doctor has said I have basically a form of PTSD so he's given me meds for that. Then my back went and I ended up in a&e so back to doctor with referral for physio. And now I've got a coil fitting tomorrow at a different centre
I can't face any more examinations or anyone touching me

The antibiotics are a full course from when I had a wound. Picked up prescription but wound viability nurse day after got the swab back and wasn't infected so didn't take them

I think you should go to the doctor tomorrow - with that history, i really would want to be ruling out an infection in your womb. I think the coil fitting should wait with those symptoms. Make an appointment in the morning, do a urine sample to take with you or do one when you get there - no one will need to touch you, as blood in your urine will indicate a UTI. I really wouldn't take the penicillin, if its a UTI you may as well take smarties as most of the bacteria that cause uti will not be affected by penicillin. You will probably be given trimetheprim which will clear up symptoms in a matter of hours. I have a course in the cupbord just in case because the lovely nurse practitioner i saw gave me a full box which had two courses in. I am prone to UTIs and recognise them a mile off.

It sounds like you have had a really rough time lately Flowers

Sidge · 13/06/2013 21:57

Well you should talk to the nurse or doctor before your coil fitting about your symptoms - you may need swabs or a urind dipstick. If you have an infection after your TOP then you may need different antibiotics and may need to postpone your coil fitting.

Antibiotics for a wound infection are generally not the same family of antibiotics that would be given for a uti or pelvic infection.

Sidge · 13/06/2013 21:57

Cross posted there!

Hope you feel better soon.

EMUZ · 13/06/2013 21:59

The coil fitting is at 6.30pm... Maybe if I rang the doctors first thing. The coil cannot wait any more, I went last week and they wouldn't fit it, I had to wait a week and appointments are like gold dust as they don't fit it at my GP
I'm on no contraception (not that I'm doing anything) and its panicking me, sounds stupid but I want it fitting to move on and I'm terrified of having it done so I'm working myself up anyway
I spoke to the aftercare line earlier, she said doesn't sound like problem from termination as no temp or discharge and it could just be my period being due
Feel like I'm wasting the doctors time Sad

Sorry should have said with it being medical I had two antibiotics with the other tablets and a big dose (4 tablets) I took in one go after it was over
Such a weird feeling, it's just like being aware of pressure in my lower abdo

I had those symptoms and it was an ovarian cyst

EMUZ · 13/06/2013 22:07

Can they just appear?
My last ultrasound was on the 14th may and no cysts then. Have a v tilted uterus they said. No stis, no thrush, no bacterial vaginosis
Have recently started on new meds so unless that's it

LEMisdisappointed · 13/06/2013 22:15

The tilted uterus could be the cause of your problems - you really need to discuss this with a doctor. All we can do on here is guess.

The coil fitting will be fine, ive had two now

EMUZ · 13/06/2013 22:18

Yeah. I just grabbed my medication and there is in side effects about "inability or increased need to urinate" so could just be that, maybe I'm more aware of it

I've never had children Sad which is why I am worrying about coil. Have decided on copper one as not hormone fan!

Are you on citalopram?

EMUZ · 13/06/2013 22:25

Yep. Have been on 10mg for 3 years but had it increased maybe a week ago

OP posts:
LEMisdisappointed · 14/06/2013 12:03

Have you been to the doctor yet? (Stern)

EMUZ · 14/06/2013 13:59

Noooo Blush
Honestly I think it's the citalopram. I vaguely remember feeling like this once before
