Inner ear MRI

Has anyone had specifically an inner ear MRI? I'm having one this Friday and just wondered what to expect. I am not worried about the claustrophobic aspect but I am concerned about the noise as I already have tinnitus - dont want to make it worse! Will I still be allowed ear plugs?
Will I have to have the dye? That also worried me as I don't like putting things in my body I could be potentially allergic to! health anxiety gone into overdrive

Yes, I had one to help diagnose Meniere's disease. No dye involved. I doubt you will be allowed ear plugs but they played music into the machine for me which helped.

I had one a couple of years ago. Turns out they were fine and I have Disembarkment syndrome.

Anyway, I was 7 minutes in the scanner. It's not that loud, and like PP, I was given headphones for listening to music and hearing instructions from the operator. No dye involved for me either

Thank you - ok phew that doesn't sound so bad. They're looking for Menieres or an Acoustic Neuroma so I'm told - we'll see.

Meniere's is a diagnosis of exclusion...there is nothing that will appear on an MRI to indicate it. Doctor will be trying to rule out other causes. Let us know how you get on.

Yeah i was totally confused by that myself as my aunt and friend both have it and both say nothing showed on their mri - I guess it makes sense that they will rule out other things first to diagnose.

Don't wear an underwired bra !!!! I was given this advice last week when my son had to have a MRI ..but couldn't follow it through as they are the only ones I have .

I was at his feet end but my bra kept moving ,tweeking and twanging ....thought I was going to do a Barbara Windsor moment !!

Ha really? It's amazing that if it is that powerful that we are ok to go in it!

The MRI was no better or worse and experience than I thought in the end BUT I wish I had been told that literally I was only going to be in the machine 5 minutes - no way would I have been so worried! I was allowed ear plugs even though apparently the machine I was in was quiter than the other MRI scanner and people don't normally wear them. So, the sound was no problem at all - my tinnitus no worse.

Anyway, I don't have an acoustic neuroma (phew) but have notable vascular loops?? what the heck is that? I only know because I asked the doctor if my MRI results were in at a separate appointment for my daughter. He could see that it was but didn't know what the vascular loops bit meant. I assume that the ENT will write to me and if it is nothing to worry about then he might not even tell me that bit... wish i hadn't seen it though!

I had it for having tinnitus in just one ear and for vertigo

I have it in one ear. Had it yonks and went docs once when I first randomly got it. He said it was one of those things. That was 5 yrs ago. Don't have vertigo though, hope all is well with you.

Bimbledorf sorry I did not see this earlier I could have told you it was a short MRI having had the same a little before you. It took 2 months to get back my results.
I think my tinnitus is vascular - caused by my noisy blood vessels bending close to the inner ear and therefore hearing them. Its one of those things. Annoying but not serious. I don't know what notable vascular loops are but it sounds a little like the cause of my unfortunate anatomy.
