Throat scan

I talked to my sister on the phone on Saturday and she mentioned that her throat was hurting and her lymph nodes were swollen. She went to the doctor yesterday who gave her blood tests and arranged for her to have a throat scan. This evening - now in fact. The speed of the appointment means I'm imagining all sorts. She had breast cancer five years ago and I've convinced myself that the doctor must have seen clear indications that this must also be cancer.

I'm trying to remain upbeat for her sake and for the sake of my 90 year old mum who my sister looks after but I'm terrified by what the scan might show.

Anyone have any suggestions as to why else the doctor might have arranged the scan?

Could be a thyroid problem, my DSIL has recently had sore throat and swollen lymph glands, but also lethargy. Initially diagnosed with glandular fever but tested bloods for thyroid which was found to be over active, she had a throat scan and has started drugs to suppress over active thyroid.

Oh that's interesting. She has been very tired for some time. She's very thin - always has been - but particularly so now. Could that be an indication of thyroid problems?

Thankfully the scan didn't show anything sinister and she's now waiting for the results of the blood tests.
