It's been in since last night and it's getting really sore! And I think there is puss too Hmm

Personally.

Pair of eyebrow tweezers.

It it is not open to the surface I would break the skin (as much as necessary) along the length of the splinter, starting from the entry point. I would do this using a clean fine needle.

It's the way my mum did it and it gives me great satisfaction when dds come running up with a splinter...

Is it in you or a child?
I work them out with sterilised pins or needles, soak in some kind of disinfectant before & after. But on kids they seem to work themselves out, that's best.

Whereabouts is the splinter? If it's a finger, try soaking in warm/hot water with some TCP or tea tree oil, it may ease itself out.

If not, definitely sterilised needle to pick the skin at entry point & tweezers, as advised by EdwiniasRevenge then savlon.

Ouchy. Needle and tweezers. And swearing.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 09/06/2013 19:06

Soak the skin first, in warm water (with or without TCP) as it makes it much easier. I got to get DDs 2nd ever splinter today, was very satisfying. Grin

If the above fails, try magnesium sulphate paste (drawing ointment) from the chemist.

I use tweezers, DS2 had one the other day and there is something strangely satisfying about getting them out.

Sugar and soap poultice overnight and it will come out easily tomorrow with tweezers.

Movingforward123 · 09/06/2013 21:19

It's me that has it Confused and it's in my finger!

How do you make the poultice?

I've tried picking at it with tweezers but it's not coming out but puss is!

I'm not very good at things like this Hmm

Get a bar of soap, if it has a soft part, scrape that into a cup or egg cup. If there is no soft bit, chop or grate some into a cup, and add a very few drops of water
You want the consistency to be like a firm paste. Stir in some granulated sugar, it will not dissolve completly.

Cover all the area with a thick layer of the paste, and protect it with a plaster or an old glove to keep it place.

It will feel as though it is drawing, which it will be doing, the paste will help with the pus.

Try to be brave Moving. I will keep an eye on this thread to see how you are getting on. Have you got a fine sewing needle which you can have ready?

Methe · 09/06/2013 21:48

Very hot water.
