dd1 is nearly 3 and we still don't wash her w/soap more than a couple of times a week.

SLS-containing shampoo gives her a horrid rash, and she has long, thick hair, so we use Organic Children shampoo from Green People. Going to get the conditioner, too, for when she goes to nursery and gets exposed to nits - it's got lots of tea tree oil in it.

When dd2 smelt a bit fusty, I added a few drops of olive oil to the water bath. That seemed to do the trick.

DS is 22 months & has only ever had a bath every week or so & is washed only in plain water. The only other things he has on his skin are green people sun cream & nappy cream. He is lovely & clean smelling all the time & his hair is in better condition than mine Angry. Most wash products are totally unecessary imo.
