Hi , hope someone can help me. My mum had been to nurse ( about something else) and he noticed a shake she had nobody in family had noticed this before , he said to her to put app on with doc within the next month has he noticed she had a bad shake which he said was making him think it was like a parkinson shake. So put on app to see doc he wanted to test her thyriod first which came back clear, so he put on app to get a test for parkinson's at hospital she has app this wed, and was wondering how do they test for it and how long will it take and what are the sympton's, I am quite worried and I think she is as well. Hope someone can answer this. Thank's.

It can be a difficult one to test for and sometimes it is a matter of time. I haven't been to a diagnosis but they will look at things like stride, arm swing, lack of facial expression, small handwriting, low volume, hoarse voice. There are a collection of symptoms, more than I've mentioned, tremor is only one.

Tremor itself can be essential tremor and not related to Parkinson's.

If they think there are enough symptoms they may suggest a trial of madopar in which case if she does have Parkinson's you would expect to see an improvement.

There is a medical test but it is very expensive so often not carried out and progression of symptoms and response to medication can give enough of a definitive answer.

I hope you get good news tomorrow but if not the response to medication in the early stages tends to be good and if no one had really noticed the tremor she could get by a while further without.

Good luck tomorrow xxx
