Frequent Febrile Convulsions

Hi,
My DS is nearly 15 months and in the past 3 months has had 6 febrile convulsions (2 of which happened on Tuesday). Although I know they are fairly common, even the doctors admit that it is unsual to have so many in such a short space of time. Apart from a chest infection last month, he hasn't been particularly ill, just a spate of colds and viral infections that have brought his temperature up.
I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience of frequent convulsions, and possibly any advice or reassurance to give. I am finding it hard to relax and enjoy spending time with my ds as I'm so worried about him getting a temperature and having a convulsion. I know that sounds silly, but I don't think I'm coping very well at all.

I used to have these as a baby as did my sis and we both suffered quite severely.

As there's a history of Epilepsy on my dad's side of the family, we (sis and I - although she's 7 years older) were prescribed Phenabarbitone (sp?) as a precaution from 3-7 approx.

How about speaking to gp or health visitor to see if they can give you any tips?

Otherwise just try to be calm for DS (while he's around you at least ) and lots of cuddles once it's stopped!

Did you or your sister go on to develop epilepsy then, if you don't mind me asking? No family history of epilepsy for us as far as I know, but DH is adopted so there's always a question-mark there.

I think GP and HV are as puzzled as us! Am definitely trying not to let any of my anxiety rub off on ds, but its so hard sometimes.

No we never developed epilepsy thankfully and we only ever had convulsions due to high temp. My highest was 105 and I remember getting to ride in an ambulance with sirens going (one of my earliest memories - remember feeling really excited and not understanding why Mum was practically white!! Now I know....) and staying in hospital overnight.

Mum to this day says to us "you both put my heart crossways when you were babies!!"
