Does anyone know about under active thyroids?

Mine is borderline apparently and I'm wondering will this affect my ability to lose weight? Do I need to eat less every day to lose weight compared to someone with normal functioning thyroid ? Tia

Yes weight gain can be symptom of under active thyroid, also fatigue and depression, hair loss (body and eyebrows oddly).

Is it still possible to lose weight though?

Not in my experience. While trying to lose weight, 1500 calories a day, lots of exercise, over the last two years, I have put on three stone!

Oh bugger :-(

Do you take medication for it?

If you're under then you need medication. Literally no amount of dieting will help if your bloods aren't right

It's borderline apparently . I guess that means its still working?

I have an underactive thyroid (diagnosed about 8 years) - I tried a few times to lose weight with no success but in fact just wasn't doing it right - then at the end of 2011 decided enough was enough and signed up for weight watchers online, did it properly and hey presto am nearly 3 stones lighter - I know everyone's different but that is my experience and it wasn't actually too difficult - good luck :)
