Little blisters on feet and hands - any ideas?

DD is 2.8 and has little blisters on hands and feet. None on her belly or back or behind her ears. Could it be chickenpox?

She was ill at the weekend with a high temp.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common illness of infants and children. It is characterized by fever, sores in the mouth, and a rash with blisters. HFMD begins with a mild fever, poor appetite, malaise ("feeling sick"), and frequently a sore throat. One or 2 days after the fever begins, painful sores develop in the mouth. They begin as small red spots that blister and then often become ulcers. They are usually located on the tongue, gums, and inside of the cheeks.

yes NDP is right - contagious but fairly harmles - may be a little feverish but nothing calpol wont sort...they advise you to keep them away from others but i think thats over cautious!

Sounds like that, the triage Dr is going to give me a phone in a while.

Well done mnetters! It is hand foot and mouth. It explains why she wasn't well at the weekend. I am feeling bad about trying to get her to eat all her breakfast this morn though.

OOO nasty mine had this. Very infectious, worse ones are in the mouth. Lots of liquidy type foods. Danger is from dehydration, but sure she'llbe grand.

It's meant to be a cause of miscarriage in early pregnancy (according to my GP) so avoid mums and tots groups if possible.
(although, having said that, I was 8 weeks pg when ds caught HFandM and that baby survived ok)

But at the other end of pregnancy, & newborns, nothing to worry about (said my doctor, when 18-month-old ds had it the week before dd was born).

I have just realised that my two have hand foot and mouth. I thought it was just friction blisters from new shoes, but now they have them on their fingers and DD has some in her mouth.

Have been warned that their poo will be highly contagious for the next two weeks

Oooh hand, foot and mouth is a horrible illness. I had it when DS2 was about 3 months old - he had it too. We were both so thoroughly miserable with it. The mouth ulcers were the worst part. It was unbearable to eat or drink anything.

Thankfully she doesn't seem to have any in her mouth (not that I can see anyway), she just has one on her lip, the rest on her hands and feet and a few on her leg.

DS2 had it really mildly when he was 2, just a bit grumpy, but never off his food despite mouth ulcers (mind you, very little puts him off his food) and just a few spots on hands and feet. DS1, 5 at the time, didn't get it and neither did the adults.
