I'm worried please help

I saw the gp this morning as have had symptoms for a few months that were worrying me-possible tmi alert:

Pelvic pain (similar to period cramps), what I thought was thrush but didn't itch or respond to numerous treatments with canesten then progressed to awful discharge and has been v unpleasant. Bleeding after intercourse and lots of utis where I pass pure blood and am in agony (uti since dec).

I have been so busy I have not gone to doctor about this till today, she was not happy that my last smear was 5 years ago and took one and also swabs, put me on anti b and said my cervix was bleeding after swabs etc were done.

I got a call 2 hrs later from hospital telling me I have an appt on 23rd and before then I will have to have scans and some tests that I must attend.

I am really worried

Yes its worrying but at least you have seen the doctor now and can get some help.

Did the hospital give you the smear results?

You must be very worried but you have done absolutely the right thing and it sounds as if you are now in good hands.

Do you have anyone with you?

No they didn't tell me any results-could a smear be done that quick though? It had been done literally 2hrs before the hospital phoned.

I feel stupid for leaving it but I have either been pregnant (bled with ds2 so didn't have smear during pg) or busy with dcs and never got round to making the appt.

I'm so worried something is wrong. I have felt rubbish for ages and particularly the past few months. I've been meaning to go to gp for weeks as discharge and intermittent bleeding has been such a problem but was so busy.

Yes they can do it very fast if the gp requests it. I guess with your symptoms it would have warranted quick action, and thats good I suppose. Better to sort it out fast as you've been suffering for a while now. In the meantime the antibiotics can kick in and help with any infection.

Try not to worry. You have done the right thing and it will get sorted. Make sure you get good rest, eat well, lots of water to help as well.

I also left years between smears due to baby and life in general, so understand we dont always take the time to look afteroourselves. Kids, partner etc always come first and we're at the back of the queue.

The hospital phoned this morning with an ultrasound scan appt for 21st and reiterated how I MUST attend it and that the consultant would need the results there when I saw him.

Just to echo, you've done the right thing - and don't give yourself a hard time, having babies and looking after them can be mind-bendingly consuming. We've all done things like wait too long between smears.

The hospital could have the results of your smear, or your GP could have simply asked them to see you through her own concern - and before you think the worst, she could be worried that you've had an untreated infection for long enough to cause complications, and wants you checked and sorted asap.

Waiting for tests is the pits, I know, but you've done all you can - hang in there, have a paw to hold if you need one, and we'll be sending good vibes on 23rd for you
