Hideous conjunctivitis

As above. Eyes are bright red, swollen, painful. I have drops but I am so miserable.

DH has been utterly unsympathetic and my dc won't come near me.

Started with drops today - how long will I look like something from a horror film?

It takes about 3-4 days before your eyes are back to anything resembling normal.

Well, I will sympathise with you because it's horrible. Especially if you have it in both eyes.

I find lying with a cold flannel over my eyes eases some of the pain.

I had a really bad eye infection a while ago. My tip is ton I pop a load of gauze swabs (or cotton wool pads) into a tupperware type container; fill it with a salt water solution and keep it in the fridge.
The cold swabs were great for getting rid of the dried on crusty bits or just for soothing your eye.
Wash hands before getting any out and separate stabs for each eye.
